Magnificent Ornk Kelandon Posted January 3, 2015 Share Posted January 3, 2015 For unfathomable reasons, when I go to the main forum page on my computer (namely, this page), I am getting a 404 error. I am not getting the error when I go to any subsidiary page (Spiderweb General Boards, any specific board or specific topic), only the main page. I am also not getting this error on my iPhone or iPad, just my computer. I'm using Safari on Mac OS 10.10, for whatever that's worth. Anyone have any idea what's up? Also, I notice the URL for that page is just a server with no page specified. It still means that all the links to the main forum page give me a 404 error, though. Could you post the exact http session with the headers? I'm not too familiar with Safari, but clicking it in this pane should do the trick. What exactly do you want? I can open the timeline and record, but I'm not sure what part of the output you'd like. Anyway, if you click on it it should show what headers were sent with the request and response. See if you can get the HTML source of that page (should be in the Resource button on the right according to a quick google, but if not cURL or wget should work as well). This is pretty weird, I've seen no indication that IPB uses any sort of CGI process (and a quick (although not comprehensive) search of the theme files shows nothing regarding cgi or redirects besides an ajax login--I'm guessing clearing cookies didn't fix anything? I cleared cookies for only Spidweb, and all it did was log me out, but that didn't help. I still get the 404 even when I'm logged out. [/copy-paste] I would hound your ISP first (att or otherwise), and tier-1 tech support won't be of use to you, get tier-2 on the line asap, if they don't know, ask for tier-3. You will probably have to make multiple calls. After no success there (likely), hound Motorola and ask for tier-2,etc. I see many calls in your future. A field tech isn't likely to help you either, so sending someone out to your house is a waste of time (and they might bill you for it so watch out) your modem might have settings to tweak to fix it though, or just buy your own modem that doesn't have annoying bugs if you can. Sounds like some confused software component has decided not to ask for the default path for this particular host and just use whatever it thinks is right, which isn't. (Either that or it's getting confused by the directions, but that seems very unlikely.) I assume if anything had changed recently (upgraded programs, etc) you'd have said so. Also I assume this happens in multiple browsers or you'd have said so. If it's Safari-specific, then I'd put it down to overzealous Apple logic. Does it happen in other browsers too? No and no, oddly enough. The fact that it doesn't happen under private browsing is especially odd, because I don't know what private browsing is doing that I can't simulate with other tricks I was trying (clearing cookies, setting the "do not track" feature, etc.). If you delete the Safari folder from your user library, whatever is causing this should be deleted as well. Quit Safari, open a Finder window click on Go on the menu bar, hold down the option key (or alt if you're using a Windows keyboard, and click on Library. You may want to backup your bookmarks first; if so, open the Safari folder and copy bookmarks.plist somewhere you can find it. Then delete the Safari folder and relaunch Safari. Private browsing probably doesn't use the cache, or it uses a separate one. I don't know where the cache data is stored, but getting that cleared out should solve this. This might help you clear your cache (simply deleting the Safari folder might not work, the cache might not be in there): https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4448839?tstart=0 So I still believe the cause of the problem is your modem set a very long cache time for the root spiderweb forum page which redirects to redirect.ha and now your browser has it cached and is delivering you the cached result (if the cache time is long, you'll continue to get the cached result until it expires). EDIT: Note to those who think, "Why didn't Kel come up with this before?": Clearing the cache is an option available in the "Develop" menu, which is not available by default.
