A4 Flaming Sword vs Blessed Broadsword

First off, I want to say that Avernum 4 is one of the largest games that I have ever played, and that I have over 200 hours on it and haven't even finished the main quest. I didn't even spend that much time on Baldur's Gate.

 

So here's my real question. I just defeated the Demon above the Tower Colony and he dropped a Flaming Sword. My lead fighter is currently using a Blessed Broadsword, and I want to know which is better. These are their stats:

 

Flaming Sword:11-33 hit damage, +10% Fire Resistance, +10% Hit chance

Blessed Broadsword:12-36 hit damage

 

I almost want to use the Flaming Sword just because of the +10% Hit Chance because I have lots of heavy armor on him, but I want to know what would be best. Thanks!

It depends upon the monster. If I remember correctly, the Flaming Sword does fire damage instead of physical. So for some monsters that are immune to fire damage it won't do anything. So as long as you have a second sword to swap for those occasions use whatever helps you hit better.

+10% hit chance means little, if you have invested decently in melee weapons your fighter will almost never miss even after wearing the heavies possible armor.

Apart from the fire resistant things, flaming sword generally does better damage because most enemies will have better physical resistance than fire.

My 1st char used flaming sword mostly after getting it and against fireproof monsters he used freezing blade and 2nd fighter used always oozing sword (after getting it) or venomous blade.

Flaming blade/sword works against 99% of Avernum monsters (especially Giants), Frozen/Freezing blade/sword works as well as Flaming and Oozing and Venomous work against all enemies.
