Kyshakk Koan Firecage
I have a question. Would the wizards not have been able to produce another food source besides mushrooms, which was obvious to be unable to have been cured. For example those fruit trees. Perhaps have those trees be easier to grow? Or perhaps have them deliver more fruit and have those fruit be more sustainable? What about trying to adjust some other types of crops to grow in Avernum? Albeit in a worse state than on the surface of course, since it is caves. How about make a new breed of lizards which is far more docile, delivers more meat and is able to breed faster and survive on less food. Or somehow make the fish able to breed faster somehow. How about a type of moss or slime that is edible?
Hatchling Cockatrice Randomizer
It has to do with the rate at which new food is produced. Mushrooms have a shorter time cycle than fruit trees that take years before they produce their first fruits. Same with animals where it takes years before they are large enough to be worth eating. Hatchling Cockatrice Lilith
Yeah, all of this is discussed in-game. There are wizards who are working on improving the fruit trees, but they don't have the same yield as the mushrooms so they can't support as large a population. Kyshakk Koan Firecage
So lets say they get enough fruit trees to begin to grow to support sucha large population, I guess it would take about 10 to 20 years for them to actually begin to properly support the population? In a minor way that is.
Easygoing Eyebeast Dantius
Also, in terms of caloric efficiency, meat is a bad food source, since it requires way, way more calories of grain/whatever to produce a given caloric value of mean, even if that meat may be tastier. Although, come to think of it, it might still be necessary in small quantities for amino acids and proteins that you wouldn't get from mushrooms. So the idea of "Let's eat meat instead" as a magic way to get out of a famine is really, really not going to help you.
Kyshakk Koan Brocktree
It's stated in-game that the cave lizards can live off blighted mushrooms. So I don't understand why the Avernites don't just breed more lizards.

Kyshakk Koan Firecage
So...isnt it possible that the Slitherikai can eat blighted mushrooms and thats why the horde isn't weakened like Avernum is? Interesting idea. Wizards making the anatomy is humans closer to lizards so they can digest the blighted mushrooms
Understated Ur-Drakon Earth
1. Sliths aren't normal lizards. 2. No1 eats Sliths so it wouldn't matter. 3. They most likely had food delivered to their location.
