Garrulous Glaahk Seasons of Destiny
First I have some troubles with The Blades Forge. Now Blades of Avernum won't even open... Why does technology not want me to make Click to reveal.. Complications.
Easygoing Eyebeast Jerakeen
Is that going to be the name of your scenario?
Garrulous Glaahk Seasons of Destiny
Yup. Or at least what I assume that it'll be, anyways. But the thing is that either my computer or BoA is acting a little crazy (by crazy, I mean whenever I click on Boa, it stays in the black screen that usually pops up when starting it for about 5 seconds, and then I get a blue screen saying that something was running an infinite loop). I'm not a scientist in computer anatomy, so ->
Easygoing Eyebeast Jerakeen
Me either. The only thing I can suggest is to re-install BoA.
Garrulous Glaahk Seasons of Destiny
Won't that unregister it or something of that sort?
Magnificent Ornk Kelandon
I think there's a preferences file you have to delete in order for it to be unregistered, and that's not going to happen with a simple re-install. If it does become unregistered, Jeff is pretty good about sending a new key. (For free, if you already purchased the game.)
Garrulous Glaahk Seasons of Destiny
Okay, thanks! I'll un-and-reinstall as soon as I can. Oh, and one last question . Do I just reuse the install, or delete BoA and then install, hmm?
Magnificent Ornk nikki.
I'd hold off - I have had issues where BoA does that for me (on both Windows Vista and 7 (32-bit). Try holding the space bar as the program opens to get it to skip right through to the menu screen. (I also have had issues where doing seemingly nothing more than lingering on an intro screen causes the game to crash too. )

Magnificent Ornk nikki.
Hmm, I'll have to try that. It's also occured to me that various compatibility settings could be monkeyed with, but I don't have the patience/will.
Garrulous Glaahk Seasons of Destiny
Sorry for not responding quickly (six hours of school, *shudder*). I'll try your spacebar idea right now, because I'd like to test out Complications.
Garrulous Glaahk Seasons of Destiny
Yeahhhh...no. I'm starting to dislike blue, because said color keeps on filling up my screen whenever I try to open BoA (even using spacebar). *inhales lungful of air* NOOOOO!!! Well-Actually War Trall Ishad Nha
If using Windows 7, apparently you don't install games in the C:\Program Files directory. Next approach, look for a Compatibility Mode. If it still does not work, that is odd, you should take this problem to the Tech Support forum. State your platform (Windows, Mac, other) and your operating system (Windows 7, Mac OS...).
Garrulous Glaahk Seasons of Destiny
Well... 1) What is a Compatibility Mode? (sounds like a dumb question). 2) If that doesn't work, then I'll do just that (go to the Tech Support forum).
Seasoned Roamer Old MikeS
Compatibility mode allows a program (in later versions of Windows) to pretend they are running in an earlier version of Window. It emulates some of the earlier environment that allows some older programs to run in new Windows versions. Basically, it's a setting in the short-cut properties. Right-click on the icon, select properties, then select the 'compatibility' tab. If you're running Windows 7 or Vista, you'll want to check the top box, and select 'Windows XP (SP 3)' from the drop-down list (that's what I have set to run BOA and the editor under Windows 7). If you're running XP, you may have other problems than compatibility, though you can try setting that to 'Windows 95'. Make sure you're not installed in Program Files if using Windows 7 (or Vista). I typically install all games (especially the older ones) in a 'Games' folder. Hope this helped some.
Garrulous Glaahk Seasons of Destiny
Ah...I see. There's only problem. I don't really have Windows 7 right now. But I do have Windows XP.
Understated Ur-Drakon Tyranicus
XP has compatibility mode as well.
Garrulous Glaahk Seasons of Destiny
And how exactly does BoA running on an older platform help open it, I do wonder.
Easygoing Eyebeast keira
Originally Posted By: Seasons of Destiny And how exactly does BoA running on an older platform help open it, I do wonder. BoA was designed with this older platform in mind. The changes since then have broken backwards compatibility a lot, especially the 32->64-bit shpeel of Win7/Vista. Garrulous Glaahk Seasons of Destiny
So what operating system would I wind it back to? I do know that it'd be a version of windows . But which version would be appropriate (95, 98, NT 4.0, or 2000)?
Easygoing Eyebeast keira
Work your way down. I'd bet either 2000 or 98 would be your best bet, though.
Garrulous Glaahk Seasons of Destiny
Thanks! I'll try this method in a little and see what happens!
Garrulous Glaahk Seasons of Destiny
Windows 2000 is as useless as a "Warning: Swamp." sign smack dab in the middle of a swamp (there has been a couple of those somewhere in Avernum) in this situation. I don't have high hopes for the next versions down, but here goes nothing *crosses fingers*. *followed by a blue screen* This is starting to get bit frustrating (but not enough for a mad face, oh no). I'll try 95, and I'll tell you guys what is causing this infinite loop. *yet another blue screen* This time I saw what file was being problematic: ati2dvag. Thing is, I don't know what to do about said file...

Thing is, I don't know what to do about said file... That file name suggests that it is a video problem. ATI was a graphics chip manufacturer. They have since been purchased by AMD, who still releases drivers for old cards. With that in mind, I would recommend updating your graphics drivers. You can download new drivers here. If you do not know what graphics card you have, you can download a tool that will detect it automatically from that site.
Garrulous Glaahk Seasons of Destiny
Thanks (for the third time )! This time I hope Blades of Avernum will work. There couldn't be such a more face-palm worthy moment in the history of all face-palms. *face-palm* You see, I thought the problem was fixed by re-wiring with video cords so they supposedly wouldn't try to overcome each other. It momentarily works, and I find out that I, being forgetful, forgot to make the town I'm working on use its town script (a.k.a. getting a innkeeper to converse with you). Easygoing Eyebeast Jerakeen
So you made a scenario without ever having played one on BoA? Wow.
Garrulous Glaahk Seasons of Destiny
Well... One, ouch. And two, I have played BoA scenarios in BoA, and I also have tested my own in BoA. I hadn't even mentioned that I haven't played a scenario in BoA (I have played pretty much every one I could find ) The town script I already knew how to use, I just forgot to do it. Easygoing Eyebeast Jerakeen
That was an awestruck wow, not a judgemental one. Sorry, I got the impression that you were having trouble installing BoA for the first time. My mistake.

Garrulous Glaahk Seasons of Destiny
It's ok The Turtle Moves. And I did know that Tyranicus (I use it quite a lot ).
