A3 Questions (Pachter's Plate, Special Skills and Caches)

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I'm pretty deep into my game of A3 (great game) and doin quite well... currently exploring NW Valorium before I plunge into the Golems. I got a few questions I wonder if anyone can help answer...

1/ I raided the Anama quite early in the game cos their attitude annoyed me and I really wanted the mithril armour they have. Anyways, afterwards I realised I still need to go to the Isle of Bigail to get to Kneece for the Lair of Drakos. Now that all of Bigail is angry with me, is it possible for me to use the dock in Kuper without the character editor?

Related to this, I'm considering eradicating the Cult of Divine Lucre, but I hear they give you a dreadcurse... is there anyone else that can cure it besides the Anama? and just how bad is it? (like can I complete the game whilst cursed?)

2/ I've come across caches in Northern Valorium that I cannot 'find', do I need to improve 'nature lore' or something?

3/ Does anyone know how blademaster works? Is it only useful for melee weapons, or does it boost pole weapons too?

Thanks in advance.

1. Angering Shaydar shouldn't change the rest of the Isle of Bigail. However Shaydar doesn't ever become friendly.

It's possible to play with a dreadcurse, but it isn't as easy. I'm pretty sure only the Anama could remove the dreadcurse. You might be able to do it with the editor.

2. You need more nature lore to get some caches.

3. Blademaster should work with pole weapons, but I'm not sure for A3.

Thanks guys.

I'll probably avoid the Cult of Divine Lucre then. They're annoying, but not annoying enough to get permanently dreadcursed for. (I don't use character editor as a matter of principle)

Hopefully the other towns in Bigail will have forgiven me when I eventually decide to get Pachter's Plate. If not, I'll just destroy the Island and explain it as some sort of Avernite invasion, condoned by the Empire, to 'create space' for an Avernite colony on the surface.

Does anyone know what the mechanism for blademaster is? In A3 it is ridiculously expensive to train in it (300 coins/level), and as always the ingame info is quite vague. I've seen on this forum somebody talking about how u need pole and melee weapon skills to benefit from blademaster... was this for the later Avernum games?

Basically I wanna know if it's a good idea to train in blademaster instead of melee/pole (which costs a lot of skillpoints by this stage in my game). I have a melee specialist who has virtually no other combat skills, and a pole specialist who is pretty competent with melee too, who is better suited or will blademaster benefit both?

You're probably thinking about Blades of Avernum, where you can only train in blademaster if you have a certain amount of melee and pole weapon skill. I don't think that applies to A3. Certainly not if you're buying the skill.

Wait, where do you do this? I was unaware that they had a headquarters. I made it through my playthrough with our only meeting being me buying stuff from them in (IIRC) Gale.

The priest in the ToM cures Dread Curse in A1 and A2, but Ahonar is the only one who can in A3.

Blademaster helps melee and pole weapons equally. I believe it just counts as a point in both skills while calculating damage, actually.
