Garrulous Glaahk jimbob
I was just playing Blades of Avernum, and it seems that setting the difficulty to torment does not change anything. Is this the case with any of you guys, and if so, what have you done to fix it? Thanks to everyone who responds!
Understated Ur-Drakon The Almighty Doer of Stuff
Torment causes inexplicable crashes just before climactic moments in scenarios. You're welcome!
Easygoing Eyebeast Enraged Slith
Torment makes monsters deal more damage and possibly makes them harder to hit. The biggest difference between torment and normal difficulty is that in torment, you should anticipate having 0 hp a lot. It's harder, but not impossibly so. You'll learn that 1 hp is just as useful as 100.
Garrulous Glaahk jimbob
So torment does not affect enemy hit percentage? It did that in some of the other Avernums, though I do not remember which ones. Torment on Blades of Avernum also does not affect enemy hitpoints then, correct? Thanks for all the (useful) responses! Magnificent Ornk Dikiyoba
Changing the difficulty setting should definitely affect enemy hitpoints. Dikiyoba.
Garrulous Glaahk jimbob
See, that is what I was wondering. It did not seem that changing the difficulty to torment changed the hitpoints, and now that I checked, it does not affect the damage or hit percentage of the enemies. Does anyone know how to fix this? Thanks to everyone who responds!
Hatchling Cockatrice Lilith
Torment works by changing an enemy's level, which affects its stats and hit points. It's possible that the monster stats in a town are fixed when you enter town, in which case changing the difficulty while you're in town wouldn't make a difference. Garrulous Glaahk jimbob
I knew that someone would answer with this eventually. I already knew this, and changed the difficulty outside, and even started a new game at torment difficulty. This did not change anything either. Thanks for the suggestion, though. Any other ideas? Magnificent Ornk nikki.
Does anybody actually balance their scenarios according to difficulty?
Garrulous Glaahk jimbob
Oops. Scratch that. It seems that torment does change the difficulty level. It is just hard to notice it when fighting goblins. Attacking a guard on easy has them doing about 40 damage, and attacking a guard on torment has them doing 100 plus damage. Sorry for wasting everyone's time.

Well-Actually War Trall Niemand
I always test my scenarios on both Normal and Torment with a pretty standard party. My rule of thumb is that on Normal the party should be in danger of dying if they don't fight carefully, while on Torment I should have to reload now and then, but not overly often.
