Kyshakk Koan Jawaj
I've played the demo of both a bit, though not recently. I don't really like Exile over Avernum (except maybe 3), but Nethergate's engine is a lot closer to Resurrection's than E2's to A2's. I know some people prefer the original, why? Hatchling Cockatrice Randomizer
The original has a unique system of issuing skill points every 100 experience points so you can level up whenever you want. Also certain skills increase other skills so you increase dexterity and/or intelligence and that increases tool use for instance. The new version has two extra dungeons and a few extra quests. Hatchling Cockatrice Slarti
It's not every 100 experience points, skill points are issued individually in much smaller intervals -- something like every 8 experience points IIRC. What's unique about this compared to other SW games is that you do not have a "level" and therefore the amount of credit you get for killing a particular type of enemy does not decrease as the game goes on. In addition, there is no limit to the skill points you can gain.

Garrulous Glaahk Untamed Banana Slug
I preferred the original version, to be honest.
