Fledgling Fyora (1/17)

  1. After finding the Exit as the last big Quest, my party dutifully returned to Avernum. On the way back I decided to attack Sulfras just for the heck of it. The fight went quite poorly, since I was using the wrong ward and most of my party freaked out from Sulfras panic spell (even the cleric who usually resists mind effects quite well). My mage did most of the job by herself, with haste and invulnerability, spamming arcane blows until Sulfras was almost dead. Then the invulnerability wore off, and Sulfras made short work of her. Then it went after the cleric, who was still panicked some 7 turns later. Sulfras hit, but the pannicked cleric, wearing the bracers looted under great difficulties from Hawrhornes dead body, and no other riposte item nor having levels in riposte, riposted the atack - for lethal. Hilarious.
  2. In older versions, the hitpoints of enemies were displayed as a number, in addition to the bar. In this game, i cant see any number. I can make a rough guess how much is remaining by estimating the lost percentage and keeping track of the dealt damage, but thats both awkward and not precise. Is there some setting, or a hotkey to get the value as a number?
  3. To make things even more confusing, I found out that if the fps drop very low (below 10) I can get them high again by entering end exiting the inventory. So maybe the slow speed is not even related to the graphics? I am using Vista on this machine, could that be the reason?
  4. I am a bit lost here, maybe someone can help me out. The game runs occasionally very slow. While sometimes I have 26 or above 30 fps, without real reason it will go down to the low tens. This will happen even in the overland view, for example next to the cristall cavern. Around Fort Avernum, its fine. I have tried all kinds of settings, (high to low graphics, resolutions, windowed mode, direct X mode) - nothing did change much. For example, with full graphics, i have 16 fps next to the gate to the Formello region, wich will drop to 11 if I move south. With lowest graphics, I have 18 fps next to the gate, down to 10 if I move south. I have the following system: Pentium Dual Core T 4200 2Ghz 4 GB RAM Mobile Intel® 4 Series graphic chipset I am aware that the graphic chip is not very hot when it comes to games, but it should be enough to run Avernum in lowest graphic mode, I guess? Especially since this machine can run other games like Sacred 2 (which has fancier graphics) just fine. As far as I can tell there are no other notable programs running in the background. Can anybody tell me whats going on?
