Not only does it manage to blend the styles of two vastly different authors, it manages to say something about the human condition at the end of it all. That was my first experience outside of canonical Holmes stories and I really enjoyed it. I felt like it really kept with Doyle's style except for the subject matter of the ending was definitely out of character, it was definitely a surprise for me, I really wasn't expecting it.
