The Limey came from the experimental approach to C and consumption thereof. They messed around with rations til the citrus was found to ward of scurvy. In my foggy, post debate memory, Limes were available, lasted in old style storage & the sailors could be convinced to consume the lime juice since it was put into their ration of rum...Grog. (Does groggy come from that?)
  2. I know it's IQ for sorcerer/esses & Shamans. It's Dex for archer & Strength for sword/spear whacking warriors. I'm not really into the theivish world, so I never paid much attention to that. (Bad me?) What is the proper Main Statistic (IQ, Dex, Strength, Endurance) for a Tinkermage??? Dimly yours in need of info & some sleep, Keet
  3. I think I may have goofed up. I have Kabraxaz & company. They are outside hte room where one fights Rentar Ihrno. I talk to them & the say it's not time to talk. They won't go in. I give up & go in & fight the stoned Vah. mage & she goes bye bye. I go back to Kabraxaz & get the same line about it's not time to talk & they'll tell me if I need to know anything. Where did I go wrong? Keet
  4. I'm working through Avernum 4 on a Mac, not a PC. The Various Help Instructions say one can attack a Friendly bad critter (Friendly when one's Nature Lore is high & it's blocking the way to a bit of treasure & won't move). I can't. I try entering Combat mode & whacking at it. I'm told It can't converse with me. Help. Keet
  5. Ok. I know that the Broadswords in escape from the pit have a bug that prevents them from properly getting improvements with experience, blah blah. They are nice for giving an extra 5% to attack for mages & mostly nothing else. Do the Halberd type weapons in the Spear set of weapons which share the multiple attacks quality share this bug? Doubtless I missed the information if it's out there. the Parakeet
  6. Does the latter comment refer to folks like Roman Awol guy and the Celtic warrioress in in the Vanarium Inn? Keet
  7. Ok...I've been beavering away. I visited the dragon in re scale for curse removal & of necessity used an add on Goblin character. Will I need to use other such add on characters from time to time & if I do will it require dismissal of whatever add on non player character I have in the party? Does having a NPC in the party decrease the amount of credit the real characters in my party get? Just curious ::adjusts ugly football helmet chin strap & sallies back into the fray:: Keet
  8. I've been trying to use some of the walk throughs from online to help when I got stuck or to find out if I'd gotten everywhere that one could go in a particular ethnic group walk through. I discovered that everything I have tried seems to be geared to the original Nethergate & I have the Revised version. The result is that things the walk through says are there, are not there or something else is there. Hidden areas are not there (though in one case, it appears I couldn't get into one area for an extended period of attempts because some nonplayer being, a large formian, was probably blocking the door to that area for a while). At least when I banged my feathered head (in protective padded helmet, of course) against walls I never found the alleged hidden area. I bought the hint book, also. To my complete disgust, it's totally electronic and given my $#%!! new printer the likelihood of printing it out even in part is de minimus. Elector Hint books are a HORRIBLE idea. Switching between them and paper, if you can't print it out, is murder which requires legible handwriting, decent cartographic drawing skills/photographic memory, and is generally driving me up the wall 'cause I don't have those talents. It is descrete....I hate discrete. I like to know eventually that I found all the little hidden spots & discover, ethics permitting, what was in them. Does there exist an Indescrete mapping or place version for the Revised Version? Sigh. Your Frustrated, Feathered, Football helmet (figured I had to trade in my Batting Helmet for the change of seasons) sporting, Keet
  9. Gentle Spirits, I Found Sylak's Exuberant Trash. Does it actually have any use? I don't think I can use it as a trail of breadcrumbs as I can't control it. Will anything awful happen if I just put it down some where out of doors & letit disappear? I figure it might fill what ever indoor room I put it in with trash, perhaps & I wouldn't want that. Curiously yours, Keet
  10. ::loops the loop cheerfully:: He got to me on Friday and I am merry trip stumbling & falling around in Celtic-Roman Britain. Managed to wander into a place that had undead at the exit. I wasn't familiar enough with the traits yet to use the Character editor to move me out & then set me back to my lower levels, so I started over. Fun fun fun! Keet
  11. I found your answer for this in the tech support columns after I posted the start of this thread. The problem is, neither the answer placed as a rough fix worked (the Option key didn't kick our the capacity on the menu to do what I had to do to fix the file once it was off the disk & on the desktop). I used Pacifier to get into it so that wasn't the end of the earth. However, the line of code to be changed was already in the format it was to be changed to. I read further & someone else had tried changing another line. I tried that. It didn't work either. ::flexes tiny gray scalely feet with minute claws:: I have a talent for having things like this happen to me. So, Randomizer, I figure I'll d/l the thing again, install it & politely ask for a new Passcode, while gently waiving my pesky, Noninstalling disk. About how long will getting the new password/passcode/whatever the nomenclature of the day is take? Keet
  12. Ok, I pulled out the Nethergate disk to install it. I'd finally tried the demo downloaded elsewhere, surprizingly I liked the Roman Celt bit thought I didn't expect to & remembered I received one is a premium when I bought a lot other other stuff. I've had the problem before installing a Spiderweb software game from disk. I fire it up. It politely informs me that Administrative privileges are required. I'm in an adminstrator account--I set them all up that way for convenience in case something goes terribly wrong & I need to sally to the rescue, print out of How To Fix This from the manual on the desk beside me. (OS 10.6.8, mac intel chip in case it matters) I go to the accounts section, unlock the account so changes can be made. I go back to the program disk & try again. It politely informs me that Adminsitrative privileges are required. There's a trick to this that I've forgotten. Please, Please, somebody tell the little Keet what it is. Small, feathered, & irked at its own absentmindedness, Keet
  13. Just Curious. In Avernum 1, I see at 10000 gold (with a maximum available 9000 gold for a character) a Blessed Plate through the window in the shop on the way to the dragon with the exit. Is there a way to get a Blessed Plate in the game rather than with the Editor. Given the limits, I won't ever be able to buy it. Keet
  14. I miss being able to display a complete message on my browser (Firefox for Mac). It's too broad & to read it & I have to keep scrolling back & forth manually. Changing the font size won't fix it & only makes it worse. Since I need the larger print to read it comfortably I'm going to be courting tunnel carpel syndrome for the forseeable future along with eye strain. Also what happebned to all the other Faces...I seem to find only a smiley. Sometimes Smiles don't cut it when I've got troubles. Parakeet
  15. Ok...bookmarked some map file areas & made a note of the Gamefaqs site. It might keep me from totally crashing under the good Capt. Murphy's Laws.
