  1. So I have a character equipped with the item, Freedom Charm, which claims to "protect you from being paralyzed or put to sleep by hostile monsters." Well, I just fought a hostile monster, 'Hostile Spawned Fungus', and it paralyzed me anyway. Is it just a partial resistance?
  2. That's annoying, but thank you I was going to be worried about that for a while.
  3. Okay, I went far to the West in Vahnatai lands, to Fort Haledon, where I meet a bunch of Vahnatai who lead the assault to get a Crystal Soul. I completed the battle, saved, then went forward. I went back and they were all gone. I reloaded and left the way I came, came back, they were gone. I wanted to rest to regain mana so I was heading back the way I came- when I passed over the Fort's camp it gave the message: "You find where Fort Haledon's troops were camped. It is a sad reminder of the awesome sacrifice they made to help you obtain their people's treasure." ... But not even half of the guys I saw in the battle died... How am I supposed to take this message? I'm really confused and messages that make me feel like I did something wrong fill me with indecision.
  4. Are there plans on bringing the newest version of the Exile series (Avernum: Escape from the Pit, if it wasn't obvious what I meant) to GOG? I get that it's a new version and thus not old, but there are games on GOG.com that are definitely not old. I ask because I'm interested in the new version, but I generally prefer getting things on GOG rather than Steam.
  5. What do you normally do when you've got pretty much all of the expensive things to get in Avernum? Does it vary from game-to-game? Do you tend to stop collecting things to sell at a certain point?
  6. I notice that there are locked doors in many areas that relock themselves (despite the lack of anyone to lock them) upon my reentry to the area. This can be kind of inconvenient, is there a particular reason this happens- and can I do anything about it?
  7. Alright, I guess I just won't worry about it and I'll save up cash. Thanks for the tip
  8. I have ONLY been doing things for this very sect, and this is the same merchant I dealt with in the past.
  9. So I was buying things from a merchant in Vakkiri, and the prices were pretty good! Javelins were 6 each... So after I do lots of stuff, like clearing the areas and little tasks for the Awakened guys, while demonstrating my support for their 'awakening'... I come back and he's charging way more than before. (16 per javelin) I'm pretty sure I've asked this question in the past but I'm totally blanking and the search function turned up irrelevant stuff. What changes their prices? I bought a few things and I think I sold him a lot... is it possible that because he has less overall money (from my selling him stuff) that he now charges more? It's weird to me, but I'm pretty sure being in good graces with the faction should make my prices BETTER, not worse...
  10. I figured out my problem. Akhronath =/= Skarragath. Thanks, guys.
  11. That was informative but I still have no idea how to get into Skarragath I did everything you said before getting the information to go to Skarragath and I still get the message, "There is a massive, basalt fortress blocking the corridor. It has no visible gates. It's just a massive sheet of rock, blocking your progress. Massive words, the letters five feet high, have been carved into the rock: "The Former Realm of Grah-Hoth, sealed by order of King Micah. None may proceed." I have the Blessed Athame, I have the Royal Seal, I've killed Haazai-Adze... I've talked to both Erika and King Micah repeatedly... I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong.
  12. I've done practically everything else there is to do (I have access to the cave leading to the surface and I'm pretty sure I know how to teleport to assassinate Hawthorne) but for whatever reason I don't know how to enter Skarrgarath. I talked to Micah, who tells me to go to Skarrgarath and then to Erika, who he claimed had knowledge of the place... but they aren't telling me anything I don't know and the entrance is still blocked. I feel like I'm missing something obvious.
  13. I've encountered what are likely the most dreaded enemies in Avernum 1, Mung Demons and Gazers. Is there ANY good way to deal with these guys? Any encounter I've had with them was long and drawn out and afterwards I had to make an effort to get somewhere to rest... and then the dumbfounding didn't even wear off right away! Forget simply being dumbfounded and unable to cast spells, I don't have any mana after being dumbfounded anyway!
  14. But I can't attack them while they're in pillars with my weapons... and they aren't really moving either...
  15. None. I try to walk into them and nothing happens at all. I made sure Numlock was on and everything. ... I think I've figured it out. For SOME REASON the Black Shades occupy the same space as the pillars which can be buffed (for whatever reason). The pillars in Sulfras's lair actually disspear when the fight starts, and then all the spells that come from the 'Black Shades' are actually coming from the position where the pillars were before! I wonder what caused this...
  16. I wasn't sure how to title this, but my issue is that in two situations (during the opening image and during battles with large numbers of enemies) the game stops doing anything and my cursor changes into the loading image. The game doesn't stay frozen (and in the case of the battles with large numbers of enemies it may even progress technically faster) but it's distracting and occasionally inconvenient. What seems to happen is that in the opening image, right before the main menu, the music plays for a second or two and then stops and my cursor changes to the loading image. After a second or three it changes to the main menu. It didn't do this in the past. During battles if there are a large number of enemies (I haven't gotten an exact count of how many it takes) I see the first few actions of the enemies and then the game stops moving and my cursor changes to the loading image... and a few seconds later it's my turn and a large number of actions took place that I didn't witness. This makes it difficult to track enemy actions. : / Is this a known bug? Is there a known or suggested fix?
  17. You walk into enemies to melee attack them, right? Even if you can't see them? I don't think I'm forgetting anything that I took for granted, but maybe I am...
  18. Okay, so Sulfras basically wanting to coerce me into getting items for her and the text wouldn't shut up about how powerful dragons are and how weak I am... so of course I pick the aggressive conversation option and crush Sulfras without any of my party members getting to half health (Story-Gameplay Dissonance >_>)... ... and for whatever reason the pillars in the room (which seemed to get buffed along with my party members O_o) dissapeared and invisible enemies (Black Shades) appeared. I haven't had too much trouble with them in the past, but I CANNOT attack them! I've cornered them and I continuously try to walk into them to attack but my party members do nothing. I'm pretty much certain I'm not mistaken about their position because I surround them and I can see the spells coming from certain areas. Question: Is there anything I can do about this? Is this a known bug? Should I just not fight Sulfras? What the heck?
  19. ... Wut? I beat the first Arena challenge, got the Gremlin to tell me of the secret entrance, beat the Arena's second fight and then realized I needed some kind of protection from Basilisks. I did not beat the third Arena fight until after I stole the circlet. Though maybe it's because i ran around in the arena a lot because of the weird setup that tries to get you to leave the building and reenter from the opposite side.
  20. I don't understand what you mean... what does the Arena have to do with getting into town without paying? On a side-note, I coincidentally found out there's ANOTHER side path into town in which the guards try to extort me as I LEAVE town (but I just left the way I entered). Thanks for responding.
  21. Is that Meena's item? If that's what you're referring to I stole that a while ago, I thought I had to turn it into someone in the town but I can't because the guards won't let me in... Did I miss what I was supposed to do with it?
  22. So I entered the town of Spire, one of the two abyss towns, and I grabbed a bunch of quests and left. I later came around through the Giants' land through Bargha and encountered some patrolling Spire guards trying to extort money from me. I said no, of course; I've slayed a dragon and dozens of demons, no minor guards are going to extort money from me, regardless of the amount. So I then returned to Spire, to advance in the Arena (I had no Crystal gear the last time) and turn in some quests... only to find that apparently if you refuse to be extorted from the first time they attempt to extort you once more... and apparently I CANNOT enter Spire without paying them (which my pride refuses to allow) because the back doors I discovered are super-duper locked and bashing, lockpicking and the unlocking spell (level 2, haven't found 3) aren't good enough to get through. So I decide that if these guards are just going to run around being useless and extorting me I may as well cut my way into town. They turned out to be far more powerful than they logically should (a slight complaint I had of some enemies in Avadon as well) but I still annihilated them without taking much damage. I then find out if you decide to kill ANYONE in a town it makes EVERYONE hostile... TL;DR: How can I get into Spire proper without paying anyone who's trying to extort me?
  23. I'd thought that myself, but it's good to hear someone else put forward the idea. --- EDIT: OH! Just remembered, can't you summon a bunch of guys and have them all gang up on a single one of your creations to gain experience? (Only talking GF1, no idea if this would work elsewhere)
