  1. All right, I guess I'll just live with it. I'm using a Guardian, so I'll be raising Strength anyway. Thanks.
  2. I bought all five games on disk from spiderwebsoftware.com. I have never used a different version. All the other Geneforge games let me mess with the scripts. Is there any other way to deal with the encumbrance issue? Or maybe, what's the best way to live with it?
  3. First I changed the weight of a wooden shield from '80' to '0'. When that didn't work, I replaced it with the original script and changed the chitin armor weight to 0. Again, no success. The file is called gforscen. Edit: I also gave my Guardian 1 extra AP to help him reach pesky artilae that kept running away. Game still died. I tried adding a random space in between two lines. This shouldn't change anything at all. But it STILL crashed. It seems to resent my changing anything at all. Or maybe it doesn't like reading recently modified files for some reason. I'm stumped. Edit 2: Hmmm. I reinstalled with no luck. I also tested the other Geneforge games. They let me change whatever I wanted. I don't get what's so special about G2. Arggggg...
  4. I'm playing G2 again, and because the encumbrance system is so annoying, I tried changing all the weight values in the scripts to 0. The game crashed. I replaced the script with a backup I made. It worked. Then I changed just one tiny little value (I'd done this exact thing before, and it worked) and the game crashed. Furthermore, when I changed it back to the way it was, the game still crashed. For some reason, it I change anything at all, the game suicides. Last time I played G2, I edited many things and still had a working game. Any thoughts? (I'm using Windows 7 in case it matters).
  5. Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, ATI Raedon HD 4200 Graphics Card, AMD Athlon II X2 250 Processor (3.0 GHz). This is what I found for drivers. It makes no sense to me: Main Driver: aticfx64.dll, aticfx64.dll, aticfx32, aticf Version: 8.850.0.0 Date: 4/20/2011 3:07:48 AM WHQL Logo'd: n/a DDI Version: 10.1 Driver Model: WDDM 1.1
  6. I have recently been playing G3, and lag has been happening in mass quantities. On the first island, it was fine. On the second, it started to happen a bit, but it wasn't much of a problem. However, when I got to Dhonal's Keep I was suddenly assaulted by lag. It happens more when I'm near other characters, especially moving ones, and it happens more when I have more creations, so it probably has to do with having too many animations at once. However, my computer is new, bought around February, and it runs far more complex games smoothly. I can't understand why G3, a graphically simple game, is overtaxing my computer. G4 and G5 work fine. I also have been unable to find a Fast Graphics mode or a DirectX mode. Is this something that was implemented after G3? I've tried reinstalling, rebooting, etc. No change.
  7. Okay, I think I know what the problem is now...thanks.
  8. Did all three, no change. This is quite annoying, since it's rendered a total of 9 quests uncompletable. How do I get my dialogue back?!?
  9. Okay, so I've been having a weird bug lately. Some people's dialogue things have been erased. What I mean is that for example, when I try to talk to Captain Valenta in Minallah, it comes up with the, "You make some small talk, but you don't learn anything interesting" thing that comes up for unimportant characters. So basically I can't talk to him at all (or Commander Pritz, or the guard at the Purity Workshop gates). I tried reinstalling, didn't work. Yes, I have done some scripting, but I've only messed with gf5itemschars and gf5objsmisc, which shouldn't affect dialogue. I'm stumped.
  10. Thanks! Also, where are the sounds at? In G5 they have a nice little folder for them. With earlier versions, that disappeared.
  11. I feel like I'm missing something really obvious here... but where are the gfobjsmisc.txt and gfitemschars.txt files for G1 and G2? They're not right in the scripts folder like they are in the later games.
  12. A few problems: First, the default behavior in basicnpc.txt is to go directly for the PC. They sometimes ignore your creations. Secondly, I have fun doing this, and having to follow my creations around takes away that fun. It doesn't really matter that much, I suppose.
  13. Oh, well, I suppose I'll have to ditch this project. Too bad. @Pyrrhus: I'm the kind of person who likes to take a Shaper/Lifecrafter, stand at one end of a zone, make a bunch of unstable creations, and mow through the zone with them till they die, then recharge and repeat. So I was just thinking that it would be nice to have a creation to heal for me so my delicate little lifecrafter doesn't have to risk his easily-breakable neck to go out and heal the raiding party.
  14. Okay, a few questions: 1. How do I change ability animations? I would like to change my character's appearance to that of a drakon or a gazer or something like that, and I've done it successfully. However, I can't use any abilities that use a different animation or the game crashes. (For instance, when I try to use war blessing, the game crashes because the drakon doesn't have an animation for it.) 2. So you know how the Unbound in Gorash-Kel have AoE attacks in addition to the regular attack? I'd like to have something like that too. Or maybe one of those slowing ray things (like, "Servile Mindcaster fires a beam of slowing energy.") 3. Where are the G4 sounds kept? I didn't like some of the sound changes Jeff made and I'm trying to change them back. But I can't find the G4 sounds. EDIT: Also, the Unbound have little thingies floating around them that looks like a shield or something. How can I get that on my character?
