Tenderfoot Thahd (2/17)

  1. Well, he is not on the run. He has claimed his own land, small it may be, and is trying to defend it from Shaper and rebel alike. He is also not the only shaper there, just the leader. I like the roamer idea though. I have decided to call him Barkham, and he originally serves Alwan in the war, before running off after finding himself unable to slaughter a suspected rebel-symapthathizer village. In addition, he would not make drayks, but recruit them.
  2. Yeah, the intersting part is going to be getting sizes down for the creations, still looking for any interesting or creative ideas by the way, the more I talk the more I want to write the thing. One of the things that will be rather cool in my opinion will be logistical uses of creations beyond battle. For instance, the renegade shaper needs iron, so he needs to reopen a barely tapped mine. One problem. He has next to no tools to dig through rock. So, he sets clawbugs to burrow tunnels, with humans and serviles acting as foremen. In exchange for their labor, the clawbug population is well cared for, and gets to keep the warrens they make in the process. Another example, the shaper (I really need to get this guy a name any suggestions?) discovers that several of the children in his new territory potentially have the shaping gift. Both the rebels and he shapers want these children as recruits for their war effort. So the shaper decides to hire gaurds (drayks maybe? The drayk gets his food from the family and a salary from the shaper?) to guard the children.
  3. Cool, that actually makes the storyline I had in mind work better, maybe one of the challenges should be taking care of a couple stray unbound? Anywho, You know those stat sheets for creations in the loading screens? Is there anywhere I can take a look at those? one of the wiki pages actually had the standard conversions for stones and spans, I never thought that an artilla was a 9 foot long one ton animal.
  4. I tend to make a habit of finishing what I start, I am actually about 60 pages into the sequal of the above book, and I intend to make it about 300. One of my ideas, was for a side story that takes place in Geneforge 4, but is completely seperate from the main storyline. The main character somewhat reminds me of Khyrk, and the story would be very in-depth. A renegade shaper seizes a territory in Illya province and declares it a haven from the war, open to all who wish to flee and abide by certain laws that mix the better parts of the ideals of the Shapers snd Rebels. The hard part however, is the logistics of keeping the peace. How to defend this territory, how to train the populace, how to handle the flood of refugees, I think it would make a decent story. One problem though, what ending was chosen for geneforge 4 when 5 started? I have not bought that one yet.
  5. I have done some searching on the web, and aside from some minor fan fiction, and by minor I mean 20 pages or less, I really have not seen anything in the way of geneforge side-stories or spinoffs. Personally I think that the series would make an excellent source of literature, if Jeff ever thought about it, (which he probably has, he's a bright guy) and you have several decades of stroyline during the rebellion, or the centuries preceeding it, to work with. I do a lot of reading in the genre, and by a lot, I mean about 3-5 300-500 page novels per week. I also write, although I never intend to get published,)I currently have about 100 pages of a novel online), and I would like your opinions on theoretical storylines. I do have some ideas, but i would like to hear some input from the forum first. Please keep in mind that anything I write would be completely unofficial and nobody would ever make a cent off it. For a sample of my writing, visit the following link, http://www.webook.com/project/Apocalypse-2 Keep in mind that this is my rough draft, most of the typos have not been fixed, and it is merely a prolouge for the novel I am writing. Also, please read the disclaimer before reading.
  6. Seeing as I loaded the entire geneforge file to the CD, the saves should be there, right? I caan not see a way to open them on a seperate computer from a CD. As for the editor, I see unofficial discussed on the forum all the time. I saw no problem seeing to it that I am using a disc, which is in of itself a backup, and of which I have multiples. I have attempted the text edit ones before, but I must be doing something blaringly simple wrong, as they will not work for me.
  7. Hi, I'm new to the forum, although i have been playing the geneforge series on and off for four or five years. Recently, for a class project on inpiration and creativity, (I do some novel style writing) my idea was to use one of the geneforge games in the class project, because what Jeff did with the series strikes me as a pretty awesome example of ceativity, and indeed, inspired me to write. So I tried to use a backup CD I had made of the geneforge games I had made but never had to use, only to discover that I couldn't access save files off the disk. Unable to find a solution, I attempted to use a character editor for the CD, so I could demonstrate to the class the abilties and options the game presents ou with. The character editor did not work either. Unfortunately I have little background with the more complicated (By my standards) matters of the computer. So, I have two problems. First is the save issue. I dont know if this is actually an "issue" or is supposed to happen. Second is getting a character editor to work. If someody could give me a hand, I require a rather idiot proof step by step answer. I am using a Windows Vista. I am hoping for Geneforge 2 with an editor involved, but 3-4 will work. I do realize I am likely resurrecting an old post, but I failed to find one that answered my problem. Thanks in advance!(And sorry for being so long winded)
