  1. Btw I found out that the issue was a Steam Update that broke the latest Wine versions. Quick fix is to disable Steam Overlay or possibly use an older version.
  2. I've been enjoying both the first and second part of this series. This post will mostly focus on the things I'd like to see improved. For some context, I've spent almost 90 hours on Avadon 2, completing the game on Torment and doing most(all?) sidequests. Less HP on general mobs on harder difficulty. I think the first Avadon game had a good balance. Enemies did a lot of damage, but I could focus down key targets with some tactics. I think the 2nd game in general had too many encounters that seemed to take forever to play through. Special fights are OK in my opinion. I enjoy hard fights, but punching through large hp pools gets old fast. There are many more interesting ways to make it hard, and still keep it interesting. Max level was reached about 2/3rd of the game. Considering how linear the game is, I doubt it was wasn't intentional decision, and I find it a little odd. Speaking of linearity, I disliked the frequent locking of areas that would only open on quest triggers. I especially disliked how quests like the Avadon Dungeon and the abandoned tinkermage place was progress-locked 3-4 times over the course of the main game. To me, it felt unnecessary. I don't mind retreating and coming back in a few levels if it becomes too hard, but in a RPG I'd like to make that choice myself, not have some arbitrary wall stop me until I've progressed a little more in the main quest line. I get that something should be 'locked away' until the game wants to trigger it, but for simple sidequests out in the woods, I think it is unnecessary. It takes away some of the enjoyment of exploring around. If I happen to pick up a quest item before I got the quest, then surely that's not the end of the world? I personally liked that you added romance stuff in Avadon 2. I was a little surprised to see that I wasn't able to persuade Silke over to the Pact side, given my previous friendship. Unfortunately for the PC, my loyalty to Avadon was greater than his pixel-needs. I liked that some midgame decisions made an appearance in the epilogue, specifically that my character had to face the consequences for drinking corrupted water and killing that assassin group. I think there could be room for a lot more consequences in midgame dialogue. Your writing and story is great; make it matter a little. Too many dialogues are 'solved' by an immediate quickload when results are immediate. I loved the new tinkermage class. It's a fun concept! In its current state, it did trivialize a lot of the encounters, though. In general, it made a torment run a lot easier than in the original. I noticed that (unlike Avadon 1) I wasn't able to replace enchantments on armors and weapons. I think this is a mistake, as it just makes me avoid crafting until endgame as I don't want to 'ruin' good gear by using less than optimal upgrades. I think the graphics are fine for this series, but the sound could be improved upon. A couple of nice background tracks would go a long way in my opinion. The main theme was perfectly fine. I understand that it's probably going to end up as a money issue. Thanks for making a good game. I enjoyed most of it and I'm looking forward to the sequel!
  3. Hi, I've played through several of the latest SW games through Wine in Linux, but suddenly A2 crashes whenever I press a key, like pressing ESC at the start to skip intro, or F4 to quickload a game, or any key within the game after loading a savegame. I can probably figure it out, just wanting to know if anyone else here uses A2 in Wine and had similar issues lately? Maybe the game have updated or something? I'm running Avadon 2 through Steam in Wine 7.9 and Wine 7.10.
  4. Aww, I suspected as much. It's too bad, but I'll manage. Thanks!
  5. Hi, So after enjoying the remake of A1:EftP, I figured it was time to have a look at the 2nd trilogy. So far, the mechanics aren't ~that bad~, considering it's an old game. However, selling items makes me want to stick a fork in my eyes. It's easy to miss that tiny coin icon on every item. Is there a button i can press down while clicking an item to sell it? Like CTRL-click to move things into Junk container in newer additions?
  6. Playing on Torment, I had one fighter with sword/shield pumping con during the first half of the game. His only job was to tank enough per round to get healed back up at the end of it. Once his health/tanking capabilities got to a decent level, I started pumping strength / switching to dualwielding in order to help doing damage. I occationally switched back to sword/shield for though encounters (there's a shield adding mental resist which worked well against that demonlord, because getting my fighter charmed, usually meant reloading). So I do think shield/sword configuration has its place. At least on higher difficulty where just surviving the first round of alpha can be hard.
  7. Having only looked at the comparison pictures, it seems pretty neat! As for an honest opinion, I'd still prefer the stock art despite having a lighter, less depressing theme. More people modding can only be a good thing for any game, and these games are excellent!
  8. Hi, So this package I was supposed to deliver to Meena in The Spire, got confiscated at Fort Spire. I've search the chests in there hoping I could steal it back, but haven't found it yet. Is there any way to get this item back or will the quest always be in an unfinished state?
  9. I played through on Torment as my first introduction to Spiderweb games, and had a ton of fun doing it. I'm gonna do a solo run on Torment when RL cools down a bit. I also agree that just adding a bunch of HP makes harder modes boring. I loved the fact that damage was increased, but hitpoints somewhat unaffected. I'd love to see smarter AI's on harder difficulty as well, but if the developer had the time and resources to improve it, i'm sure he'd do that through all modes. I like the harder challenges in tactical RPG's because it makes the fights much more interesting, though I have to admit i'm a meta player, usually spending an hour or more reading up on stuff before i actually start playing a game! I dislike games where I end up with a lot of unused items/boosts and did not have to make careful considerations as to what I was training towards or have items i never found a situation for.
  10. === MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS ==== Thanks for the replies, guys. I kind of forgot about this thread until now. I managed to beat it by charming the third soldier and have him either help damage the guy I focused on, or keep the archer busy. Even with charms, I had to rely on at least two successive hits in order to have a chance to last long enough and to be brutally honest, the only reason I won was due to starting over until I got the lucky outcomes I relied on. I spent quite a bit of speed scrolls, various potions, staves and such that I had been saving up from the beginning, and not knowing if this would become the norm from now on, I retrained into ranged/dex on my SW and BM. The game got very easy after this and I basically steamrolled everything until the end. I killed Beloch on my 2nd or 3rd reload, killed Lord Gryfyn on first try, etc. So for future readers, if you've come this far as melee and enjoyed the challenge up until now, keep going with it. Retraining into dex builds makes it much easier and not really much of a challenge. Oh and thanks to Spiderweb Software. I haven't been so psyched about an RPG since Baldur's Gate and Torment! I'm definitively gonna check out the previous games.
  11. By "kill" you mean having any of the soldiers healed to full health? They get insanely hard when hasted and such once Lundy gets in the ring!
  12. So the fight will stop after i kill any of the three soldiers that round? I'm sure I've seen them get revived to full health a couple of times during the round where all of them are fighting me.. How long will this go on?
  13. Hey everyone I'm new to Vogel's games, but so far i'm loving Avadon. My first game is on Torment, but i'm at a pickle with Zhossa Mindtalker. Not knowing that the door would get barred behind me when entering the dungeon, I diddn't carry a lot of support items like handy summoning scrolls and potions. I'm having some serious problems taking her on and I've no idea if i'm even close or not. So far, my party usually die shortly after their third soldier is released on me. If i'm close to an end, I could probably beat it, but if this is just foreplay for the real fight (against the drake) then I've got no chance at all.. So yeah, am I close or should I reload that save game that is a couple of levels back? Oh and my party consists of me as SW with Sev and Nath. With the exception of Nathalie, our party focuses on melee (yeah, I know - i'm probably retraining when I get out of this dungeoon)
