Controlling shaping prevents more disasters, and keeps lunatics from wreaking havoc. Not that some of the shapers aren't lunatics, however... Who can say? However, my opinion doesn't affect my gameplay in the slightest. I do what will give me the most reward. I'm a bit Munchkinish.
  2. I'm wondering, if Jeff were to release the BoA code, is there anybody who has the desire and ability to upgrade the game? Or is it getting a bit old and out of style?

I started A:EftP on Torment with a two-man party. It took me everything to beat the first fights in the beginning town. I then started over on Hard with a regular four-man party, and the game was still hard enough to be very fun. I think the difficulty has changed (IMHO) so that people starting the series who aren't aquainted with any of the other games, can start off with not too hard a play, then feel free to change the difficulty however they want. Those who've already played can simply start off on Hard or Torment, to get the experience they're used too.
  4. Heh. I thought so. That's too bad. Just wanted confirmation.
  5. Avernum: EftP is running very slowly on my computer. I followed all of the steps listed (though I could not download the newest video drivers) but it hasn't helped much. My computer is an Emachines T1120, with Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition. Thanks in advance.

Actually, plot is the hardest part for me. I can't think of a good, interesting story to save my life. I'm better at technical stuff and town design. I enjoy that so much more. I have so many unfinished scenarios that have some nice towns and a few scripting tricks, but a very uninteresting plot and no dialogue yet. I'll bet there are some people who have unfinished scenarios in need of town design or other such things, but that have a great story and fleshed-out characters. That's my idea, is to get people together who enjoy making certain parts of a scenario more than other bits, then equal the deficits. However, you're right in that it would require alot of coordination. Perhaps doing the process in steps would be better, though it would take longer that way.

    WHEN???

I think it's more of a cold sweat waiting for something to happen. Little activity, it seems, as everyone sits and waits... And why is it always the moment you least expect?! Can't I expect it every moment equally?

  9. True. I suppose the less people the better. Perhaps three or four. However, if someone quit, somebody else could pick up where they left off.
  10. I wouldn't think it would be too hard. Every person would have one job to do. A single other designer (probably the one who thought up the plot) would give an outline to follow and some ideas, then revise and compile all the bits when they're finished.
  11. I was wondering if there have been many scenarios where two or more people worked on it. A thought crossed my mind of a scenario where jobs, like plot, custom scripts, dialogue, towns, and outdoors, could be assigned to different people. That way you could find ones who did the best in each of those fields and make a bigger scenario in a shorter amount of time. Another idea would be a scenario where you could assign a range of towns to each person for them to build. Any thoughts on this?
  12. Eh, everyone said it better than me. I've actually played this scenario over at least three times, the last time with a singleton Jack-of-all-trades on high difficulty. Eventually I had to turn the difficulty down, because units with thousands of HP is just... stupid. I rate this scenario [rating]AVERAGE[/rating]. Because of the unique plot and interesting scripting I would like to rate it good or even best, but the outdoors and combat just brought the score way down. However, to those who are thinking of downloading this scenario, I would recommend doing so. Play it once. Scream and curse. But have fun. Because it is fun. I don't regret playing it.

They are good at what they do and and are proud of the quality of their work. My mother's first quote applies especially for them. I would like to learn more about computers. I can touch-type, and I enjoy math and accounting. However, I have never quite gotten the same kind of satisfaction from anything than from a bit of woodworking and manual labor. My dad used to own a carpentry business, and he is an exeptionally skilled woodworker. I helped around the shop as a kid and enjoyed it immensely. I think some times that manual labor gets a bad rep just because it is difficult and time-consuming. However, it can be very rewarding. That's my two bits.
  15. It's hard to get a tense atmosphere in BoA, so Mystery Manor wasn't much of a mystery. However, this scenario comes the closer to that kind of feeling than any others. The plot was good, though I was never quite sure whether it was based in the future or not. A few more details about the setting would have been nice. Combat was one-sided if you knew what you were supposed to do, so not much of that. I rate this scenario [rating]AVERAGE[/rating]. A good scenario to play if you like a somewhat interesting story in a few minutes.
  16. Hmmm... now here's a way to get my post count up. I'll not be sacrificed yet... Anyway, sounds like a good idea.
  17. I'm on right now if anyone wants to play. Haven't noticed anybody on the last several evenings. Maybe I log in too late.
  18. This was an excellent scenario, if very different from the usual hack'n'slash, dungeon-diving adventure. However, the story, town design, and characters together all completely made up for the lack of combat. The combat that there was added well to the story. All in all, it flowed smoothly and I was caught up through. My only complaint is not being able to get the story from the prisoner's friend, who appears in each of the tales. I rate this scenario [rating]BEST[/rating]. If you don't mind alot of reading, and little combat, this is a great scenario to play.

I'm not familiar with UBB or forums much for that matter.

Years later, I found the 1000 Games CD again and replayed those demos. I've only mentioned the games to a few friends. Most said they'd check it out, but never got back to me. Meh, I tried. I'm not a very good salesman.
  22. Heh. Very nice. And accurate too.
  23. I thought this was an awesome scenario. Like Backwater Calls, it was big, but was much more fleshed out. It felt realistic, in that you could explore an entirely new world and different plotlines. In some sense it had linearity, but it seemed open-ended. The scripting was great, and fitted well into the combat, it didn't unbalance it. I love random crap. I thought pushing those boulders around was hilarious. Maybe I'm just broken. My only complaint was in the giant's tower, there was a cask of ale that seemed to make you drunk indefinitely. It seemed excessive, though I guess I should've backed up my save file. All in all, it was a great scenario. Although time travel is a bit cliched in most things, this was the first BoA scenario I'd seen it in, and it made a very interesting and engaging story. [rating]BEST[/rating]
  24. I'll try to join sometime in the evening of Saturday or Sunday. 'Merca time.
