  1. And don't answer 'arrows' because there haven't been arrows since Exile. Which leaves thrown weapons as the outlier missile weapon which can run out (and are bloody heavy in Av4). So either give us arrows again or make the bows available or cut it out. I miss arrows of light for eg.

Yes, I've been playing these for a LOOONG time.

  2. I'm running Mac OS 10.12.6 and the game runs but the keyboard does not work in the game. So you cannot rename characters, do a quicksave or respond to dialog elements by hitting the numbers. The game will have to played as though it was the tablet version clicking everything.

Yes I have tried launching it with the terminal and the same problem arises, keyboard is non functional.

I also tend to rely on the keyboard since in many situations placing your party or characters precisely can require the arrow keys as the space you want to select is pretty much impossible to select.

  3. I've just found out how to kill the annoying wandering Anama around Farport etc Just rob the Anama treasury and they will attack you of their own volition. What fun.

BTW the way to get off Bigail after doing the deed is to make your way to the docks, getting your mage to cast How of Terror and then get on the boat to Marish. You pay on the boat and you can do that whilst in combat. That whisks the party off to Marish.

Since the latest version blocked off the option of flying across near the roach factory this is the only reasonable way. BTW make sure you have done everything you want to do on Bigail first including any courier jobs.

  4. Oh dear, it's a managing resources game. No, no, no. Will not be buying it.

    Steps are

    1) build a building - click on the marker next to the building

    2) "buy" the thing you want to place there - button in lower left of screen

    3) place the thing you bought, in the building you built - button just to the right of #2 button

Except it won't let me place anything despite having done all of the above. I cannot be bothered having realised after he had a sleep that this is a resources management game. I'm not interested. Give me enemies to smite, monsters to purge, missions to bring iron bars or tools or swamp nodules. Fine. But manage resources? Forget it.

  5. Not much impressed, the game is very simplified compared to the Avernum series or Avadon. You can only get things through chests which sit there giving off sparks. Please.

Haven't found any wandering monsters to level on. I'm going to have to increase the difficulty as well as Normal is really easy.

Also I don't like not knowing which character is going to act first. What is the point of being able to change the roster order if it has no effect?

Lacking in game play and interest would be my initial verdict.

Also when you kill some things white writing telling you things +something etc flit up and away too fast to read and they are not recorded in the text box. So wtf just happened? No idea. And this with all animation on, full resolution etc on a mid 2010 Macbook Pro set to use Internal graphics only. Heaven knows how fast that stuff moves on modern systems.

Not sure about the direction Spidweb is moving in. I bought the first Avadon but I've never finished it or even close. I get bored and give up. NPC with personal issues and psychobabble? Spare me. This one looks like it might be similar in which case Meh! the Shareware Demon will be unfulfilled.

I'll go back to playing Avernum 4 with it's broken difficulty settings. Playing it on Torment and finding it very, very easy.

Right, so I've retaken the port, got a load of extra supplies, well some it seems and I'm to rebuild some of the Fort's buildings but there is no way to tell the function of the buildings which need to be rebuilt and I have insufficient resources to do them all. I'm liking this game less and less.

And now despite having enough resources I can only do two buildings. If I try for another one it says 'You might need the resources for something else'. Yes, like rebuilding this building. So in the game I do not have full control of resources and how and when the use them. Treating me like a simpleton.

I have played SW games since Exile 1 way back when you had to snailmail for the release code. I still have the original hints book as well. In other games if I want to use all my herbs to get potions at one shop I can and on my own head be it.

  6. So I tried to quit the game after saving and in common Spidweb mode it asked me if I wanted to save. So I clicked no, as you do and it put me in the save game slots. I could not quit or do anything as the game (Mac Demo) would not let me do anything until I had 'finished my task'. I had to use Activity Monitor to Force Quit the game.

Not impressed. Oh and the Demo has no icon.

    Mac 10.12.2

  7. Cast Haste level 2 twice and in all the rounds the characters had that attribute only once did one of them get sped up. Nobody is encumbered. This is just the most egregious example. Often it is only my priest and mage who are hasted when it is really my warriors who I want to be hasted. They have to swallow a haste potion to get reliable speed and they are not common and neither are their ingredients.

I have played AEftP a number of times and never noticed it be this bad (playing it Hard). Is this just a sampling thing or what? I'm certainly wondering what the point of wasting spell points on it is.

I'm replaying AEftP because I can use the keypad and keyboard. I've been trying to play Av4 but having to use the trackpad for pretty much everything is seriously hurting my poor abused hands (I have a joint fusion in each one) and it was just getting too sore to play enough to make progress. Long fights? Ouch!

So I have a plea for remakes: don't forget us people with bad hands/wrists and that not everyone on Macs is playing on an iPad and so it really needs two separate versions not slightly tweaked ones. A4 for Mac really is redolent of being a port from the iOS version. Even after playing it quite a lot I'm still hitting a to attack or speak to people or u to find out if there's anything usable around. Instead I have sweep the cursor around to see if anything lights up. Ouch again.

  8. I didn't need the beam my mage did it with acid spray, though my second grunt has the emerald halberd which is acid and he wasn't having any effect. Though getting my mage just, through to Adrenaline Rush meant she got quite a lot onto the crystal. My Nephil Priest had moved the mirror inside the room and was just in process of fetching the outside mirror while contesting with the Demon Golem when the shield was pierced.

  9. I'm with Sade, the distance between Dharmon and Blosk for eg is just silly. Also Blosk used to be on a mound, then it wasn't. Can't put that down to cavequakes.

I'm redoing 4 and the main bugbear is the lack of keyboard uses. I keep hitting A to talk to people. It betrays that the Mac version is just an iOS port. Also just tapping the trackpad isn't good enough when moving, it needs a long press which is very annoying. But on interaction screens a tap is sufficient.

Also the inconsistency between the games in movement and action points is a bugbear for me. Must leave 5 action points when attacking or spell casting whereas in other games you just need 1 action point. It means instead of going up to most enemies, especially outdoors, you just hit pause until they come to you. Even with haste and high Quick Action it is painful.

Also I'm sure that in Mac Sierra the hardness settings don't work. It seems stuck on casual. My level 1 mage, supplied with icy rain from Natural Mage seriously kicks butt. Against goblins you just let them all come to you then WHAM. No challenge and that is on Tricky. I've had one character knocked out, once, largely due to carelessness on my part. Chiefs, that Ogre, nae bother as we say in Scotland. It takes a lot of the challenge away.

  10. Something weird just happened. I had just killed the Efreeti in the north by the lava fields West of the Vahnatai lands. When I told the group to head back East my mage went by herself to where I clicked while the rest of the party stood in place with their legs going. I then clicked next to the rest of the group and the mage jumped back and they all moved one space.

Interesting effect. A legacy of Efreet magic?

  11. I'm unclear on how the additions work. Case in point, my Nephil priest had a Mind Effect resistance of 86%, a combination of Intelligence and equipment. The party killed the gazer in the SW of Cotra and gained the Ivory band which gives 15% to Mind Effect resistance. When the priest wields it his MER rises only to 89%. A rise of only 3%. So to what is the 15% the ring is claimed to provide worked out on? because it is obviously not the total.
