  1. Thanks for your replies. Specifically, I was wondering what happens if you kill Mayor Bevan before you reach the Castle. Does this interfere with a later necessary quest to return to Almaria and talk to Mayor Bevan? It's hard to remember specifics, but I think you can outrun the shade by using haste spells. Eventually, it will return to its usual spot.
  2. I just finished Avernum 4. When passing through Almaria the first time, where all of the citizens are hostile, what happens if you kill the citizens? Does this interfere with a later quest based on talking to the mayor? I started to kill them, but I figured it would look really bad to the Castle and stopped. I don't have a save for this part of the game and don't currently wish to replay up to that point.
  3. I never used the Revive or Raise Dead spells in any Exile. It is an easier and better solution to reload the save game. The main reason is that your characters are carrying a lot of very valuable equipment that you might have to leave behind.
  4. Exile 2 is my favourite Spiderweb Software game. I really detest not having random monsters in the newer games because you are no longer in control of your level. Grinding exp allows you to always be in control of your level. Geneforge was really hard because Jeff took away the ability to grind monsters. The 2D graphics are better than the newer graphics because you have the bird's eye view and can easily see what's going on in the situation. And the spells in Exile 2 are better than the spells in Avernum 2. The Avernum spells are much more restricted. I really liked the security clearance, the missions, the teleporter from Exile 2. These little additions spruced up ordinary Exile into something really great. I also liked the linearity of the story at certain points. So there was some linearity and some non-linearity mixed together. Beating Garzahd was a really powerful moment! Also I loved attacking that tower with the more minor general or whatever who was still hard to beat. I guess Exile 2 is the best because it just really felt like an active war so there was a lot of excitement and intrigue. Exile 1 and 3 just weren't that exciting and had a more leisurely tone (while Exile 3 had the plagues, it just didn't feel as warlike as Exile 2 I suppose).
  5. Back on topic, I always felt that the improvement from Major Blessing was always less effective than that from Major Haste and Bless Party. That's why I suggested Major Haste and Bless Party. Although I used Major Blessing in emergencies, as it is a quick way to get everyone blessed and hasted.
  6. You all should not be decrypting files! I'm pretty sure that is only allowed for Blades of Exile and not for any other games. You are probably breaking the terms of the licence.
  7. It's been a long time for me too. I have a vague feeling that golem battles were really difficult because of the stressful feeling brought on by trying to remember about them! My general strategy against most enemies is to use Slow Group, Curse All, Major Haste, and Bless Party. This makes all six party members effective fighters and you can try to knock out your enemies. But the golems are tough. That's a trying part of the game.

Did anyone else notice that it seemed like every scroll of Ice Bolt you found was a poison trap? : D
  9. I always use the preset party but I change the statistics around. 1. Human fighter, pole weapons , alchemy 2. Slith fighter, pole weapons 3. Nephil thief, edge weapons, lockpick, traps 4. Human mage/priest, initially ineffective but at end of game can cast all spells, edge weapons 5. Human mage , edge weapons 6. Human priest, bashing weapon My basic strategy has always been once major haste and bless party are attained, then use them! I have everyone attack. My magic users don't hit well, but they do some damage and have lots of tries from the hasting.
