  1. When you start playing as Romans, you'll soon learn that people who were overjoyed to see you and speak to you before are far less kind to Romans. At least one of them will actually tell you to piss off. <<
  2. The best explanation I can think of is that the whole settlement is in a state of chaos and civil war, and short of an instakill node, this was how Jeff planned to keep people out. Why exactly they need to be kept out I don't know, although recall that King Roava reverts back to his ogre-speak, indicating that along with no longer caring much for whether others perceive him to be civilized, some of the old grudges also start coming out as he begins to make a movement from acceptance of his lot in life and the passage through the Nethergate, to war. But granted, as you said, it's not as though any of that is made explicit through the given dialogue.
  3. I realize these posts are from back before N:R came about. Still, here's an interesting (and very frustrating) point on the subject that I noticed the other day: Playing as Celts, I took Titus Vorenus to the cleaners, and he drops the Polished Breastplate. Knowing that the Celts are unable to wear anything heavier than chain mail, I think, "I can give that to the Roman character that joined my party." Well, it turns out that he can't wear it either. Encumbering as it is, being able to equip the best armor would at least give SOME kind of purpose to that fifth character slot in the Celtic game. But as for the fifth fighter being way in the back, you could always just have it switch places with another of your fighters.
  4. Bear in mind, I'm playing version 1.01. What I did was to run through a wave of Reptrakos' fire breath 12 times each, one set with no spell boost and another set with beastskin. Truthfully, I didn't see any noticeable difference at all in terms of resistance to the fire damage, it all seemed to be within the same range for each of my characters regardless of whether the spell was up or not. Unless someone else has run some tests that refute this, or unless maybe I'm missing a patch (I haven't noticed any major trouble in my game, so I never patched it), I think perhaps the spell IS broken.
  5. I played through that part as both Celt and Roman by now, and they get the same dialogue options regarding the supposed murder of the hag either way: the Chief's side of the story, when you say "apparently this was all caused by your people killing one of their sisters," is that he takes a moment to think, and then says something to the effect of, "oh, so that was how it started. She came by here attempting to steal some of our herbal potions, and threw a fireball at us, so she was slain" (NOTICE: in order to get this option, you need to have spoken to the hags before talking to the Chief). So that makes it a matter of one person's word against another's. Although the cold facts of the matter, is you get better stuff if you kill the hags instead. <<
  6. Yes, it takes 1 game day for the stone to reset, and all for another peddly amount of XP. You'd be better off using the thing as a paper-weight, really.
  7. If you really wanted to, you could use the character editor to reset the tolerance level for whatever town you were robbing. But really, if you're going that far, you as well might just give yourself more gold instead...
  8. Yea, I had the gobbo with me at the time, but I opted to sneak the scale from behind the castle, that's the reason I hadn't gotten there. Thank you kindly, my mind is more at ease now. perhaps I'll go back there later just to be nosy.
  9. I had a bit of frustration in Reptrakos' lair. Here it is: Using piercing sight with the Romans a few days back, I noticed a secret pass in the SW section of the area map. I tried walking through it, but no effect. So, I heard that sometimes, although rare, an enemy character might get in the way and block these narrow passages, so, I go away for a bit, kill the dragon, and go back. Still nothing. By then I figured, maybe it's a Celt-only area. I tried it again just yesterday, and, no luck. So, I'm thinking, is this a place I'll have to come back to after performing a certain act? Or, possibly, is there an unseen rune or gate on the other side that I need to get rid of using Sever Seal? Or, perhaps this is a spot where one of Samael's souls-for-sale gets you through? If anyone else has figured out this conundrum, I'd love to know. It's eating at me. Xp
  10. Glad I tripped on this one, would've felt awkward posting a new topic every time I hit a snag. I was wondering if there's any way to reach the hidden room in the Northwest corner on the second sub-level of the goblin pit (it's the one that gives you a message of a chasm separating you from it as you approach, and if you jump down there's just a portal that takes you to another spot on the same level, nowhere near the hidden room). I'm playing as Romans now. EDIT: Whoops! Turns out that's Celt-only territory. Ah well...
  11. Well, now hold on a second. This is a worthy subject. Despite all the creatures fleeing through the Nethergate, what's to stop the making of a NEW series, unrelated to the Nethergate game and storyline, with such a theme? Although I do think the medieval theme sounds a bit like a rehash of Nethergate, the crusade idea sounds top-notch. But I must say that lately, me and some friends of mine have been watching quite a few horror films. I think an interesting twist on the whole thing would be a game that lets YOU play as the monsters, out terrorizing the land, or keeping armed adventurers from encroaching on your den, or perhaps there'd be warring factions or rivalry between monster types and the like. And perhaps you could select from various monster types as well as classes, the same way Avernum lets you select different races on top of classes. I can already see the "call spirit" spell being tooled up for Witches or Vampires, and perhaps "call beast" could be a Werewolf howling out for his mates? It could work...
  12. Yea, I was sure I already killed that Fomorian, just needed to find those sprites. I was way off, I was trying to find them near the temple. XD Thank you kindly, mate.
  13. I have heard that somewhere in the vicinity of the Temple of Brigantia, there are a number of sprites that ask your party to kill a certain Fomorian. I haven't yet managed to trip upon them, however. I should mention that this is in the Roman campaign. Can anyone just give me a general idea of where on the map I should be looking?
