  1. Again, thanksalot u all. I'm going to try reinstalling somewhere else when I get time and/or energy. I'm watching some guy on the telly eat a sandwich of steak, ffries, mozz sticks, fried mushrooms/onion rings, potstickers, more cheese, greek sauce, deepfried garlic topped off with green sauce and franks hot sauce. Wouldn't want to wake up next to him tomorrow!
  2. Thanks for the reply. but problem still not solved. Can copy to desktop, make changes and save file on desktop, but cannot replace file back to where it orter be. Its the destination file that has all the protection. I sometimes think the Win7 bods are just too damn smart for their own good with all the highfaluting accesses and control and protections. No one uses this laptop but moi. and I'm no whizzkid with the tech stuff
  3. Want to highlight switches in Avadon. I'm fairly simple in my comp skils, but have found file to update, made changes and now can't save notepad file. I'm running w/win7. I think cannot save because of way laptop is configures, something to do with Admin Access, (toldya I was simply skilled) but can't figure out how to get around the problem. I keep getting access denied msgs. This laptop is on loan to me, but do have ok to treat as my own. Help please if anyone can and will. Going blind looking for switches. Hope Jeff does something about making them a little easier to see. Daise the Munchkin
  4. I'm playing the game with the cheat 'showmeall' set to on, and there are times that the minimap shows there to be enemies, usually on the lower levels, but for the life of me I cannot figure out how to reach them. For example, over by the ogre encampment near Mertis, and on a lower level of of the Castle Food Depot. There are more, for example up near Rentar Ihrno's keep. I've entered every access point I can find, I've gone over territory using the 'u' key to show any hidden buttons, but I'm not reaching the elusive areas. Are they off limits, or are they part of the game, with the 'a little knowledge being a dangerous thing' being operative. Any guidance would help. Daise
  5. along with Sanity Claus no doubt....
  6. Thank you sooooooooooooooo much! You have just saved my sanity. I don't know if I ever would have found that portal without help. It is hiding in plain sight, but then I should have realised. This is one tricky game, guess that is why I play into the wee, small hours. Talk about addiction. Daise
  7. I'm having lots of trouble with this quest too. I get Veress'Yss to jump down the hole, and then when I follow below to try and finish him off, cannot get into the room where he has holed up with his beasts. There is a portcullis closing off access to the room, and the wheel is on the inside. I cannot figure out how to open this room. I presume the room access is on the inside, (other than the wheel?) but cannot find the entry, and, Lord knows, I've traipsed up and down this particular stretch of countryside, both on the surface and below. I'm almost to the point of throwing the laptop out the window, but it cost me too much! Is this a bug, of just being far to clever? Heeeellllllppppp!
  8. Thanks Guys, I finally found save files, and am now happily (albeit frustratedly) playing the game imported from old laptop. Now if I can just figure out how to kill Veress' Yss I'll be a happy munchkin.
  9. Thanks for the help, but I'm still a bit confused. Went to c/Windows/ but I'm not seeing any file that remotely resembles the Avernum6 backup file. So, question is, is this where I should be looking. I'm running Windows 7 on hp g61-631 nr notebook. Thanks for your patience.
  10. I've just switched to a new laptop, and want to install Avernum 6. Was coming to the end of a loooooong campaign on old laptop, and would like to finish, but can't find the file where the game is saved on old laptop,. Does anyone know where this backup file is situated. I've gone buggy enough this am, and am crying uncle. Thanks in advance. Daise
  11. Can't find Kyozo.. He's gotta be there, he's asked me to kill a bunch of bods. He's not in these forums, I've searched. Am I imagining him? Please be specific, my aged mind needs to be told exacts.. thanksalot in advance and ttfn
  12. I've been playing about a month now, but A5 does not play QUITE like other games of its ilk. First of all, why do all members of team have to be within 10 paces (spaces) before one can get out of attack mode? Also, in attack mode, I tend to lose track of who is up for the next whackamole... and then spend time banging around the keyboard until someone steps up and throws a punch. I realise this is a turn based game, but it does seem to be a tad unwieldy to have a gormless great beast thwacking the bejeezus outta my main man, and I can't get my lick in. Also, can't save in attack mode???? I guess there is a good teckky reason. Now I'm old, half senile, half blind, and getting ready to meet my maker any day. ..manys the little black spot on the wall I've missed simply because I can't see it. Maybe a better way in A6, (half-way up the wall, ferinstince!) So to the Great Creator, sorry to critique after only being onboard for a couple of days, but just had to vent my spleen. (I gotta nerve!)
  13. Yup, bumped off poor old Vera in an ogre attack. So went back to previous save. Vera had to get her goodies!
  14. So I've shopped for Vera's wishlist, got it all together, wrapped in pink ribbon, and now I can't find her anywhere. She does hang out in Muck, doesn't she. Or has she taken off for Boca for the Winter with her Mister Perfect? Or does she turn up somewhere else, having done a moonlight flit? I'm getting v. frustrated, can't finish off the side quest. Urrgh!
