  1. Um, yeah, Gharbad was joking. Personally, I find the Pyrrhic Gauntlets well worth the occasional acid burn.
  2. Here's a list of scenarios as ranked by the reviews they've gotten. Click on each scenario's link to find more details about it, like length and difficulty. All that is in the first post; you don't have to read the actual reviews if you want to be sure to avoid spoilers (though most people hide them). What you want to play may also depend on what level party you have. Assuming you've just finished all of Jeff's scenarios, Bahssikava is a logical next step, but it's huge, so it's kind of a commitment. Also fairly difficult. Magus of Cattalon is another good size scenario, very much in the Vogel style, suitable for high-level parties. Dilecia is another... Okay, actually there are so many good scenarios that you're going to have to narrow down your parameters if I'm going to have anything useful to say. I'll just say that Quarhag Pass and The Sorcerer's Apprentice and A Defiant Land are a few that really should be rescued from the unrated list. (I write this knowing full well that I haven't done my share of rating. ) Oh, and you really should get the High Level Party Maker. Even if you never use it to make a party, the shopping is excellent. Anyway, good luck.
  3. It's pretty late and my brain may not be working right, but as far as I remember there aren't any lockpicks in A2CS, so that's not an issue. You could certainly do something to make secret door switches more visible, but as far as I know, no-one has bothered. Because in A2CS (and all recent Avernum games, unlike Avadon) you can just press the 'u' key to highlight all usable objects. Makes finding them a lot easier.
  4. Is... is there something wrong with your shift key?
  5. Have you by any chance already found the pieces and had Demonslayer reforged? That's the only other reason you might not be able to get the quest. If it's any consolation, I don't think you get any XP for that one anyway. It's just meant to point you in the right direction.
  6. There doesn't seem to be a reputation requirement. Once you ask Solberg for the crystal key, you should also be able to ask him about Demonslayer. Do you have the crystal key in your special items?
  7. And I'm not sure why you consider that an unfair advantage; bow damage compares poorly with melee, and the dodge bonus isn't that great, considering the minimum to-hit chance was raised to 20% in CS. I mean, it's okay, but I wouldn't say it's unfair.
  8. ....also, where it is. ...also, where you are. ...also, who you are. ...also...something else...what were we talking about?
  9. Me too, but you have to not think too much about the fact that he's using savage beatings and torture to try to save his neighborhood from crime. I'm about 4 or 5 episodes into Bojack Horseman. I was doubtful at first, but it's actually very good! I'm also watching Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell on TMNgo. It's a long time since I read the book, so I'm not sure how faithful it is, but I'm very much enjoying it.
  10. It's okay, you can find enough there to get you through.
  11. Somebody probably already asked for this, but could we please have the junk bag sort the most recent stuff to the top? So tired of having to click through a million screens to get the thing I accidentally put in there.
  12. The only thing I will say is that it's pumpkin cake with penuche frosting. Yummy.
  13. Nope, didn't know that. I never played Exile, but my comment stands. Also, I fail at similes.
  14. Yeah, ouch, I agree on the practicality of that. Which would be perfectly fine, if ordinary pants were not also an equippable item. And shirts, for that matter. Trouble is, as much as it would make sense, I don't want basic clothing to be eliminated from the game. A Spiderweb game without pants is like, well, think of a thing that usually has pants and then take them away. That's what it's like.
  15. If you are making macaroni and cheese (or "Kraft dinner" as we call it in Canada) without adding milk and butter, then you are missing out. No wonder you need ketchup.
  16. Butter Spice Cake I got this recipe from my mother, but I don't know the original source. Probably a magazine. The cool thing about it is that you start by making a streusel topping, and then use most of that as the base of the cake mixture. Also, it tastes really good and is simple to make. 2 cups all-purpose flour 1 cup granulated sugar 3/4 cup unsalted butter, room temperature 1 cup sour cream 1 teaspoon baking soda 1 teaspoon cinnamon 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg pinch of salt 1 egg Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease a 9" square cake pan, and set aside. In a medium bowl, combine the flour, sugar and butter, and rub together by hand until crumbly. Separate 3/4 cup of mixture to use as streusel topping and set aside. In a large mixer bowl, combine the rest of the ingredients. Beat at low speed just until mixed. Add the remaining flour mixture and continue to beat on low speed, just until mixed. Pour batter into your prepared pan, then sprinkle with reserved streusel. Bake at 350 degrees F for about 45 minutes, until a pick inserted in the center comes out clean. Cool completely before serving.
  17. Yes, it's what you've all been waiting for, a place to post your favorite recipes for your fellow 'webbers to discuss and enjoy! You've all been waiting for that, right? No? Well, I'll start. Jerakeen's Bars o'Fun These are a super satisfying snack when you're hungry, and the way I make them, they're pretty high in both protein and fiber. The beauty of this recipe is that you can put in anything you like: dried fruit, nuts, seeds, toasted oats, cereal, whatever, in whatever proportions you want, as long as you end up with roughly 9 to 10 cups. The trick for me is getting the sweetness just right. You want them to be delicious enough that they're a pleasure to eat, but not so delicious that you can't stop eating them. My latest version is just about perfect for my taste, so I thought I'd share it. Everything is unsalted, and I prefer to buy nuts and seeds raw and toast them myself where possible, but again, that's up to you. Dry Ingredients 1/2 cup hemp hearts (shelled hemp seeds) 3/4 cup dried blueberries 3/4 cup dried tart cherries 1 cup crisp rice cereal 1 cup blanched peanuts 1 cup hulled pumpkin seeds, toasted 1 1/2 cups hulled sunflower seeds, toasted 1 1/2 cups blanched slivered almonds, toasted 1 1/2 cups unsweetened flaked or shredded coconut, toasted Syrup Ingredients 1/4 cup butter 1/2 cup brown sugar, firmly packed 1/2 cup liquid honey 1/4 teaspoon salt Set aside a pan to press the mixture into. I use a non-stick 11x17x1" jelly roll pan, which is perfect. If you don't have one, any large cookie sheet with a raised edge will do. If it's not non-stick, line it with parchment paper. Combine all of the dry ingredients in a very large bowl*. To make the syrup, combine the butter, sugar, and honey in a medium saucepan. Over medium heat, stir until smooth. Continue to stir occasionally until the mixture reaches a full rolling boil. Let it boil for another 90 seconds without stirring, then remove from heat and stir in the salt. Carefully pour the hot mixture into the bowl, and stir very thoroughly until the dry ingredients are coated. Spread the mixture evenly into your prepared pan, pressing it down firmly - the base of a dry measuring cup is good for this. Set the pan on a rack, loosely covered with wax paper, to cool completely. When cool, turn it out onto a large cutting board and cut it into bars or squares of whatever size you want. Store airtight at room temperature for... honestly I have no idea; they've never been around long enough to go bad. Makes about 40 bars. *It occurs to me that a lot of people won't actually have a big enough bowl for this. But it also occurs to me that it would be very easy to cut this recipe in half. I don't do that, because if I'm making these, I want lots! Okay, your turn. What recipe are you currently excited about, proud of, happy with? Mildly satisfied by? Post it here, all the cool kids are doing it! To my fellow mods, I deliberately didn't sticky this post, and I'd like to leave it that way for now; if it falls off the front page, it deserves to.
  18. There's a desk and a cauldron or two near the ToM portal. I always start or trying to keep my stuff organized, and end up leaving piles of junk all over the portal room. Story of my life.
  19. Right, but if you had clicked "Leave", then you wouldn't have 3 statues in your special items list. This is weird.
  20. Wait, your special items list says you have 3 statues, but you still can't turn in the quest? What happens when you try? The "Leave" explanation would make sense if you only had 2, but that can't be the case if you have 3. As far as I can tell, the only requisites for turning in the quest are 1. Having the quest, and 2. Having 3 statues. Unfortunately, what happens after you choose that dialogue option is hardcoded and therefore inaccessible, but it's unlikely that there are any requisites beyond that. If you were missing one of the statues, we could probably figure out a way to give it to you, but otherwise I have no idea what's going on here.
