  1. Here is a link to the forum topic that was recently posted. As always, back up your .txt files and use at your own risk. http://www.ironycentral.com/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=197006#Post197006
  2. Thanks for the tip. I found the section of text in the GF3 editor and was able to successfully paste it into the entrydlg.txt file. So in esscense, I have managed to bash together a crude GF2 editor that works for what I had wanted.
  3. I have played a few times through the regular way and, like the other spidweb games I have played, wanted to try it with all the skills maxed. I did figure out how to add items by adding the "reward_give" plus the desired item number to the Entry dlg script, also found out how to alter the stats for any paticular item to make it stronger, weaker, change bonus atributes, etc. Next, just have to figure out how to alter my PC stats.
  4. Tried that one, but the link mentioned in the post seems to be dead.
  5. I recently got a new computer, downloaded Geneforge 2 again, but I cant seem to find any links for the editor. Does anyone know where an editor may be found? Or what the name of the .txt file is for the editor? Even if I knew which script file to access, I may be able to play around with it to change the stats I wanted to change. Thanks
  6. I am installing directly into Program Files\Spiderweb Software\Geneforge 5. It seems to be a regular crash, possibly due to a directX problem and/or video card problem. The open GL version runs very slowly, and the directX version crashes. The computer is about 6 years old, the card design dates to about 2001, so probably the card as you suggest.
  7. Which text were you refering to? If you mean what is sent to Microsoft on the error report, it seems the text file is erased as soon as the file is sent or the error is closed. It won't let me copy and paste the text that displays before the report is sent. If it is other text that you mean or if you know of a way to save this *.txt file, let me know and I will try it and post or send it to you.
  8. I tried this, but still have problems. Now if I click on the regular Geneforge icon, the program loads up and the text displays now, but the game is still extremely slow, so much so that it is completely unplayable.I also still get a white background screen. I tried the DirectX option, but get an error that says "Geneforge 5 DX.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close." I did just update my DirectX to DirectX9.0c
  9. Yep, your right on the card. The laptop was absolute cutting edge top of the line in 2003, but the research I did on the internet suggests the video card is even older, about 2001, nearly 8 years old, ancient in computer terms. Oh well, I will have to do without the game now, but with luck, my wife and I may get a new computer towards the end of the year, so if that happens, I will have to give it a try. I have played the first 4 games of the series, and am eager to find out how the story plays out, once I get a better computer. I have finished the Avernum series (1-5) and really enjoyed the gaming as well as the storyline.
  10. ...and I just found the problem! At the bottom of the Geneforge 5 download page, it says 64MB of video memory required. Since my card has 32MB built in and no way to allocate system memory as video memory, I guess I am SOL until I get a new computer, but I'm sorry to say I won't buy one just for this game, when my current laptop works fine. Too bad G5 wasn't made closer in requirements or function to the other Geneforge games.
  11. I've tried the 3rd version. There may be some very marginal improvement, but it is still very slow, paticularly when "clicking" on anything on the screen. Also at start up, instead of the various graphics screen that would come up, it's just a white background, and where the version and registration info would be is just some white boxes with vertical lines in it. Also, as soon as I click on Settings, I get a "Geneforge 5.exe has encountered a problem and must close" The error signature mentions Geneforge5.exe and also OpenGL32.dll. All other spidweb games I have run great, including Geneforge 4, the Nethergate re-release, and Avernum 5, the most recent games before GF 5
  12. Does anyone by chance know the OpenGL version that is required? After more research, my card (which was first deployed in 2001) is able to support up to ver 1.3. I may have found a workaround to try this evening.
  13. Well, it looks like I may be out of luck until I get a new computer. My memory card has 32 MB of dedicated memory on the card, and the computer BIOS, nor the settings for the card have any provision for allocating more memory as video memory. As far as drivers are concerned, I attempted to upgrade to version 6.5 (the newest available from the manufacturer)and kept getting an error that no video driver was installed, please install a VGA driver first. The computer is about 6 years old, which in computer terms is obsolete, even though it has the 2.4 P4 512MB Ram, 40GB HDD and a factory installed DVD burner. Seeing as how it was only $200 on Ebay 2 years ago, I am reluctant to part with it. It still works perfectly for all of my other Spiderweb software games, so I will have to be happy with those.
  14. I have also tried the patch, but it is still very slow, to the point of being non-playable. My info is Computer Model: Sony VAIO PCG-GRZ-660 Misc Info: 512 MB of RAM 40 GB hard drive Processor: Intel Pentium CPU 2.40 Ghz OS: Microsoft Windows XP Professional (5.1 Build 2600) Video Card: ATI Mobility Raedeon 7500 driver 6.14.0010.6727 Video Card Processor: ATI Raedeon Graphics AGP DAC Type: Internal DAC (400 Mhz)
  15. Thanks for the advice, I got the iwanttobestronger cheat to work, I was, of course, mistyping it. I have pretty much finished the demo, so now I just have to get registered in a couple of weeks.
