  1. I made a tiny mistake I'm afraid. It's not the highest, rather the lowest variable what I'm looking for. So anyway: I need to know which variable is lowest, not just the value. In town, there are four points. I need to know to which point the party is closest to, so I can spawn a monster at that point. So what I did, is store the distance from the party to each point in a variable, and now I need to know which variable has the lowest value, so I can determine to what point the party is closest.
  2. I'd like to know if there is a quick and easy way to determine what the highest variable is in a set group of variables. For example: there is variable a, b, c and d. I want to know what the highest one is. Is there a quicker way to do this then the following: Code: if (a > { if (a > c) { if (a > d) { set_flag(x,y,a)}}}// and then do this operation for every other variable Not only is this a lot of work to type out, I fear it may unncesarily slow down the game. Do any of you have a better option available?
  3. Made some fence + gate graphics for my scenario The Wolf at the Door, and put them up on my site. EDIT:*sigh* Today, is the day, I have started hating UBB. WHY can't it just show the graphic?! Right, want to see the graphic? Copy the link between the to your browser url field and press enter, or go to my site (thralni.ermarian.net) and go to the graphics page. They'll soon be up also at the blades forge.
  4. Go here for a screenshot and a piece of music I made about my next scenario, sequel to HIM, called "The Wolf at the Door". EDIT: Since when can't a link be as long as I want it to be?!
  5. Is there a way to determine the amount of AP a monster has at a certain level, or is it written somewhere? I have some monsters here of level 27 - 30, that I want to move slower than the party, so in the datascript I'd like to diminish the ap they got if necessary. Thanks in advance guys.
  6. [censored] you" and go on designing, but since I feel I'm trying to make a scenario in a way that might be only really accessible for ones that like the sort of scenario, I want feedback on what people really think. I want people to tell me what it was about HIM they didn't and did like, so I can adjust the concept of HIM and make it better in HIM 2. I'd greatly appreciate it if you guys would help make the HIM concept better by posting reviews. Reviews can be posted at CSR, as always. Thanks guys.
  7. Good point, I should have put that in the readme file. I'll make a note of it and add it to the readme. The answer I just put in the readme file: Click to reveal.. Imagine: falling down quite a deep shaft (note you awake on level minus 4) isn't very good for your mental health. You'd be confused, feel lost, feel easily threatened because of your confusement. That's why you're acting "strangely" in the beginning of the scenario, and that's why this "strangeness" is going away slowly.
  8. Nioca: Did it actually scare you? As in, freak you out, made you paranoid? Even if it only did it a bit: YAY. Now that you played it, rate it please at the CSR (once a topic for HIM is made)?
  9. Dear folks, today is a great day, because I finally finished my second scenario, titled HIM. Go play it now, get it here. If you require help, find bugs or other glitches, mail me at the email adress found in the readme file. Note that the file you are downloading is a zip archive containing both the Mac and Windows versions. Mac users: dump the bmp files. Window users: dump the cmg file. Have fun playing!
  10. Guys, I'm sorry... i actually wanted to fix bugs yesterday/today, but it ppears that will be impossible. I'm in the middle of transferring files to my new computer, and so I think bugfixinf might be delayed to tomorrow or wednesday. Sorry for hold-up, I'll try to do it as soon as possible.
  11. Thanks Smoo! I sent it out to all of you. Good luck and I hope you enjoy it.
  12. I need one more Wndows user now, anybody wanna give a go?
  13. Though later than I originally intended to, HIM enters beta stage. The scenario, if played as it should be played (meaning not rushing through all levels at once, but taking your time) should not take more than 15 - 30 minutes. If you rush through, you can do it in 5 minutes. It is meant for parties of level 20 - 25, but I'm almost sure people more experienced in combat than I may find level 10 possible to do too. Apply in this thread if you want to help test. I need no more than two Mac people and two Windows people. If i see there are more, I'll choose whome I send the scenario to. If I don't choose you, it is nothing personal, okay? I might even send it to you too eventually, ya never know. Right, I want to know the following: Which OS you gonna use; Your email adress; Previous design/testing experience; Under what name you want to appear in the readme file, in the credits section.

    HIM

*sigh* Wait and see, wait and see.

    HIM

You will encounter only one creature in this scenario, and it is not a Nephil. To be honest, I *did* think of His Infernal Majesty when choosing the acronym and while HIm doesn't stand for His Infernal Majesty, you sorta can use it for HIM. I'm glad to announce that the scenario is nearly finished! I have to add some message_dialog calls to add some atmosphere here and there. then I start alpha testing. Except a beta at the end of the week, sundayish.

    HIM

Iffy is right. HIM is an acronym. For what, you'll see when you play the scenario.

    HIM

HIM is the scenario I'm designing for the 9th BoA designing contest. I won't say anything major about it as yet, for telling what thing this scenario is inspired by, will either give away too much, or people might think I'm doing something different than I'm actually doing. What I can give you, is the first and last lines of the introtext: "Light at first, and then it went dark. It went so fast, we barely knew what happened. As a matter of fact, what did happen? Light at first, then it went dark..." [...] "This is a wicked place. Light at first, and then it went dark." I'll also say that the writing will be a feast for Radiohead fans (Come and get it Nik!) and it'll be very short (five towns, no outdoors), thereby making it my shortest scenario ever. As I'll be in Prague next week, I'll probably get it finished sometime in two weeks. Wait for a beta.
  18. Wow, all that I have read makes me happy. I think this will be a great improvement over GF4, which already was so good-looking. keep on trunkin' there, Jeff, it sounds great!
  19. I think it was a nice review, but there is was one thing that bothers me: the core thing that makes Avernum 5 so different from the others in the series, the fact that you play an Empire soldier instead of the Avernite adventurer. I think that this is the thing that amkes Avernum 5 so much better than Avernum 4. It completely changes your pereption of the world you knew very well: it makes it into something you hardly know, and that's, I think, what creates the tension and excitement. I'm not saying it makes the plot a lot better (a crappy plot remains a crappy plot, after all), what I am saying, is that it lifts the plot above the level of Avernum 4 by providing a different view. Not mentioning this big thing in the review seems odd to me, and not realising this means that you have missed the point, to a certain extent. Okay, true, this doesn't count for people who didn't play Avernum 4, 3, 2 and 1, but since the reviewer did, I'm disappointed he didn't mention it.
  20. If I'm not mistaken, a lot of the error messages like "syntax error" can be found in the BoA editor docs. It should be the last chapter.
  21. Quote: Originally written by Jeran Korak: Has anyone noticed how Iffy seems...changed, since his last appearance? Mind you, he has only made a few posts, however they have been shorter, to the point, even slightly threatening (If you know what kind of threatening I mean, but I'm not exactly sure so you might as well ignore that last bit). You know how rude it actually is to talk about somebody as if he is not there, while it's his own thread?
  22. Good, good. I'm glad to hear you're still designing! I was getting worried we'd see nothing anymore of you. Glad to hear I'm mistaken. I'm sure future scenarios will be better, and please, if you need help, ask.
  23. Still though, the designing (how little it may be) is nice, I think.
  24. Guys? Every line in that scenario is taken from lyrics by Radiohead, like "Black Star" for example. It's a very good song, by the way. Just so you know.
