  1. I've played all the Spiderweb games this year, with the exception of the Exiles, which won't run on my computer. I started with Avadon, then A4-5-6, then A1-2-3. Then Nethergate Resurrection and Geneforge 1-5. Now I've replayed Avadon and am working through the Avernums again. The first Spiderweb game I ever played was Avernum 2, when it was still new. The only one I don't own is Blades of Avernum, but I did play the demo. I have to say, these games are fun!
  2. Wow!!! The screenshots look amazing! When I saw this announcement, I whipped out my credit card and headed over to buy it. I am sad that it's not available yet, but incredibly excited that it's coming out in the near future. I am currently replaying Avernum right now, for the second time this year, and maybe the sixth time overall. It's such a great game.
  3. Hooray! I cruised the giant areas already but ran into a river, which on the big map was between me and the quest location. I gave up after wiping out a lich down in a tunnel, some packs of giants/wolves, and fruitlessly looking for a tunnel route. But I wasn't thorough enough (obviously), so I'll go back, find my way, and forget about Bargha. Thanks for the fast reply!!
  4. I got the quest from King Starrus to go meet with Melanchion, but there is no way for me to go past Bargha. The gates to the east are shut tight, and Farrar's chair is empty in his meeting hall. (He's alive, just not where he was.) The only way I can get through the gate I need to go through (on the east end of town) requires me to go past the runes in Farrar's area, and then I have to fight the whole town. Can anyone help me? TYIA.
  5. Make sure he doesn't see you follow him. You'll know when he does notice you by the dialogue, something about him being nervous because he sees you. Don't follow him too closely when he's walking and don't walk right into the middle of his campsites.
  6. Thanks for the reply. I was sure candles, etc. always worked in the other games. Now I know it was intentional that they don't in this one.
  7. I've taken lamps, lanterns and candles to the dark dungeon areas of the game, and none of them emit light. When I click on the description of those items it says they have no abilities of their own but someone in town may buy them from you. Is that normal? I thought we could actually use candles and such.
  8. Thanks for the tip. I just installed smcfancontrol, will see if it helps. Although not playing Avadon helps too. I guess I'll just keep playing the Avernums until I run out. ETA: Avernum 6 gives me the same problem(s) as Avadon. A4 and A5 were fine; the processor activity was not abnormally high, the computer didn't heat up and the fans weren't blaring (approximately 6200 rpm). I tried turning the graphics settings for the games as low as possible and it didn't help. I hope whatever this issue is with the newer games cranking up the processor isn't here to stay.
  9. I'm having the same issue playing Avadon on my MacBook. It runs extremely hot, and the fan is constantly running after loading the game for a couple of minutes. I just checked Activity Monitor, and it had Avadon at 105.3% of the CPU. This was when I had not been playing, and loaded a saved game just to check. (In other words, I wasn't even playing at the time.) I keep mine plugged in most of the time, but when I unplugged it, the battery was draining quickly. MacBook 2.26 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 8 GB RAM Mac OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.7 I have been playing Avernum 4 for the past few hours and the computer is not hot and the fan has not come on. All that heat can't be good for the computer, and all that fan noise definitely isn't good for my ears.
