Thanks Jeff. My problem was a camouflaged lurker in the shadows. All fine now.

After returning to Fort Foresight, chatting to Redbeard and selecting my companions who are admitted to the portal by guards, the Redbeard dialogue remains the same and the gate to the portal remains locked. I'm stuck. Any ideas? (Playing on a Mac, btw). Thanks
