  1. Im not big brained enough for puzzles but im a completionist. Spare a crumb of brain cell pls. For the needy?

Ngl a few of the puzzles in sw games are very frustrating due to the gameplay it has. Rly hard to control. Based on the games i'd find riddles would be much better options than actual puzzles.

  2. What tri rodent said. Also other factions have cultural traits that may be of use. I find the ahriel the most disappointing in their race specific skills and the ukat the most useful. Vol is really good but i'd rather have  25% as effective skills for the whole party rather than that strong for a single person.

Edit: so you probably wanna build ur first fort in all provinces before getting serious.

  3. While yeah the initial response to it on the first screenshots was rly: "this is atrocious jeff cannot be this broke". Upon playing its like rly easy to forget about them and immerse. I have more trouble suspending disbelief in morrowind than in this tbqh. That said i do feel a bit of effort was put into the graphics particularly in how they change in certain conditions esp in forts and in the player characters based on what they are wearing. And that aside i like the monster designs for most part. I remember i had an issue with more modern avernum games because they left behind some of the traditional graphics which looked good if simple to me. For in my opinion uglier bugs. But in this case its like they are not ugly. And they're detailed too.

My main hold up wrt the graphics atm is rly the fact that the spells lack the grandiose visual effects. Like its easy to ignore but i'd feel better with them.

  4. Ok idr the name cause im working now but i got stuck there. Im looking for green globes to give to the beautiful tree. And i only found one and theres no way out. From the obvious options i did interact w other workers and explore some more. But no globes still. Should it have been done in a specific order? Cause i killed everyone else before getting the first globe.

  5. Okay so after a bit i just gave everyone long range weapons and the game is much easier to me im wondering if it was intended to be that way. Or like an oversight. Either way i do appreciate this bc it was getting a bit frustrating to have such a challenge level this early. Either way this does remind me of the relative frustration of using guardians in g1 and g3 due to the encumbrance penalties among others. If it is intended and there is  a formula to figure out in each area. I just want to say this may yet be one of the most rewarding combat systems i have played in general tbh. Bc bad builds get punished dearly and good ones are a relative walk in the park. Which would make sense seen as the respec is free and readily available.

  6. So far im enjoying it to be honest. It feels like there is a lot of depth to it and i like how very little is face value you really are thrown into a world where you arent sure what is going on and how your actions affect the future and you have these choices relatively early on. Which like ostensibly the earlier choices wouldnt matter much. But i still find it interesting cause you dont know enough. Like should i support the Owen? Is there information missing? If i give the land to that lord am i ostracising a faction? Moreover is supporting a seemingly fairer faction going to have overall negative effects in the future. Thats one part i trully did enjoy about the orzamar questline in DA:O for instance. And i have been begging for eons for a fort managing option too and to see it finally here is so good. And its complicated enough that you need to be smart about it. As they can be detrimental if you manage it stupidly.

I like the fact that diff cultures have their own bonuses that heavily ofsets the fact that you cant really choose classes. The only real complain i have so far is the combat. Im sure its rewarding in that you have to strategise no matter the difficulty but. Im more use to having to go back home and recharge often only if i was like stupid not like as a must.

  7. Personally i just think the lack of new content to discuss within the realms of this forum is the main driver for this, like... I think a lot of us have exhausted most conversations to be had on any of the previous games. The remakes didn't leave much of a room for discussions of more than mechanics and any other conversations can be had more easily and freely(not that the restrictions in place are not appropriate) anywhere else. I think Queen's Wish deff would create room for more activity. I'm to start it today and in his interview Jeff said they wrote and had a lot of content for this, and as its a whole new world, and not a sequel i feel the exploration could be much deeper on whats there to talk about. Regardless i don't think the forum actually dies most people just like. Watch waiting for actual content. This post itself seemed to have some... 180 something views despite only 12 replies or so. So i want to say the people are around. And these forums deff have the most content related to the game in any of its forms so new(may be an overstatement) coming back at new releases.

  8. Hey All.

I wanted to start a new thread thats basically  ppl sharing what they are glad for or hoping for or whatever. It is a bit unoriginal I suppose, but i don't really see it as being harmful. And ultimatelly i feel like it would be cute to celebrate small achievements, circumstances, media, etc... It provides a moment for introspection and self expression as the ability to derive a measure of contentment/motivation from others. Even if Vicariously.

So pls participate. No matter how insignificant it may seem.

I'll start. As a loona fan i absolutely loved their butterfly video, it was really refreshing and beautiful as far as K-pop goes with representing black people.

I'm also happy im getting to write a bit more seriously. I feel i improved greatly from 3 years ago.

I'm also happy to actually be in love again even if the relationship is on hold due to various reasons.

I'm also happy i found my heirloom ring i thought i had lost years ago.

Oooh, also i found that actually taking pictures helps me appreciate the environment around me much more, you know how by actually stopping and deciding something should be seen or reccorded you actually do have to take it fully in rather than just registering and making a judgement that something is pretty? It made me realise how much i love flowers. I'm deff getting a garden later in life.

    Cool!  Is it online?

Yeah but on a patreon link. But if i could upload it directly(i think?) or like if you have an e-mail u feel comfortable with sharing it would be better for me cause it won't seem like im actually hawking it.

  10. Hey All! It has been a decade!

I'd like to share the books i've read but like i think a few would have been talked about here already

Pedagogy of The Oppressed by Paulo Freire. A bit hypocritical in the way it is written, but ultimatelly one of the more solid ~left~ books

A Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabo. Much more easy to digest than when i first tried. It's absolutely beautiful, but still somewhat slow paced. If you haven't had the chance to go through it i'd 100% recommend.

The Stormlight Archives series by Brandon Sanderson(ongoing)

The first book drags for a bit before the plot gets any type of interesting and a lot of it is repetitive but it makes it up for the amazing worldbuilding. Worth readin till the end for the reveals.

The second book is one of my favourite fantasy books ever. It managed to balance out every miscalculation writing wise found in the first, it considerably thickens and expands the plot while giving the world a more solid feel.

The third book, is a bit heavier to digest, i'd recommend taking breaks between reading to properly appreciate it. It had bit more twists than i'd have personally done or appreciated but it was still good.

Im super excited to read the rest.

    Mistborn series by Brandon Sanderson(ongoing)

The first trilogy was a bit edgy and heavy, once again exceptional worldbuilding. I fel the plot was conceptually really great but the execution not the best

The second trilogy is... Original. Somewhat retrofuturistic, i feel the majority of the characters are not as remarkable as the ones in the first trilogy, and the story line in generaly is very murder mystery-ish which i personally don't like but i feel the writing improved significantly so its all made more enjoyable.

Overall while I wouldnt strongly recommend it as a stand alone it is deff worth the read. If you'd like to be more aware and informed when it comes to other Books by Brandon as most of them are interconnected. Because there is the extra incentive. It tips the scale in its favour.

La Belle Sauvage by Philip Pullman

While I did like the perspective insight and allusions, that was one of the most disappointing books i have ever read. But i suppose it is largelly because i expected much better from Philip Pullman. He had set a standard for himself.

Oh, I also re-read O rapaz De Bronze by Sophia de Melo Breyner. She trully is second to maybe only Hans Christian Andersen when it comes to short stories in my opinion.  but i doubt the book is available in english so my recommendation isnt worth much.

The books i want to read from now, are:

    Elantris

Women's Liberation and the African Freedom Struggle(if anyone could link me to a free online library that has it i'd be thankful)

Twenty Love Poems and a Song of Despair

And finally either Sula, or Beloved by Toni Morrison. Can anyone here recommend one over the other? From what i've seen of her writing i don't think i'd be able to digest both without a relatively long interval.

Also I finally published my first Chaobook y'all. If anyone want a copy let me know!

  11. OK in defense of US centrism. On terms of sexual orientation and gender identity(except the examples pointed out by dikiyoba) most (semi-) modern cultures do have a considerable lack of non slur definitions around on the national language if its not English. And "gay" is pretty much recognisable everywhere even though its English. To say basically that be it us centric or not. In its format it would be accessible to all. (I suppose non binary would be very hard to grasp in gendered languages, but still).

And like let's remember the current amount of pollers is on the 40s having an option for everyone would make its very hard to make any kind of conclusion as slarty had said. If this forum had at least hundreds polling I suppose it would be less pointless to give more options. And on the political definitions I was also really taken by surprise by them but they came with a definition next so even if you didn't agree with the definition its easy to see what to choose. And I remember it was 4 options on political and 4 options on economical so it did give space for many stances.

On another note, not to sound like a hude prick. But...

I can understand why equal marriage is important. But the united states has that and there are still trans women dying almost monthly there that I hear of. The real stats would probably be more tragic. And not to mention *insert many ways of hommophobia(umbrella)* still going on affecting a considerable amount of people. Last time I checked conversion therapy wasn't outlawed nationwide there.

So, I'm relatively disappointed of all the issues with inequality that was what held the most attention.

But also if I remember correctly which I probably don't but I think civil unions and marriages are taxed differently in some countries(Brazil is the one I read on) so having different names for the same thing would give space to create tangible differences. So while I can try to understand religious reasons not to call it such. In practical terms itwould make the alternative word really  easily targetable for discrimination.

  12. this goes Back to the difference in emphasis that I mentioned before. The early games are all about exploration and discovery. It would defeat the point of the game to just hand you all the info. The later games are about experiencing, seeing the effects of, and participating in the big war. The later games throw exposition at you because there's a war story that needs to move along and the game has to make sure you under the scenario that is playing out.

I think this is the single most explanatory piece here on information presentation. The first two games you are in a world you don't really know both in game story and freshness for players. So generally esp g1 will explain things much better. But also the main vibe of the first two games are mystery. This is sort of emphasised in g2 where the majority of the map isn't even visible to you. And the main quests are more of like find out what in the hell is going on. So giving you what you want without the need for exploration would defeat one of the main purposes of the game and the entire main quest line.

The writing is honestly much better in the first games because most characters on them have distinct personalities you lose that in g3 where the only remarkable ones are khyrick companions or people we generally hate. I.e. Lankan. From g4 onwards we start having the "main characters" kind of writing.  Which is not bad but for at least me was just like copy pasting the same stories and dialogues from previous games. Honestly no offense to Jeff.

On disruption magic I think even without g1 this damage is pretty self explanatory through gameplay mechanics. I think its the only instance in these games where gameplay accurately represents lore.

On healing I think the line is drawn in g3 with the monastery of tears prisoner.  I think healing is allowed and not considered human shaping so long as it does not improve  on who you are were already physically. You can restore people but you can't "improve" them.

On drayks and gazers speaking to creators u also have your answer in g1 I think g2 too.

Services being able to function in full I suppose strongly depends on whether they were created or born. With created being able to work as an aadult and with born ones... More @ g1!!! Lmao but for real even if they feel clunky and hard as games I really think you should just finish them as they are. Of all people here you seem to be the most invested

in geneforge lore. I think you'd really benefit from it.

  13. I was very surprised at my results. And while I liked it I feel like it could profit from at the very least more questions.

    I got

Most of it is accurate though.

There's always Unity, but no, there's nothing really like Blades of Exile/Avernum in terms of accessibility and ease of use. Even if you don't want more modern graphics that kind of scenario design tool has always been a fairly rare beast.

—Alorael, who doesn't see why this would have to be kept off the forums. It's wrong to show up and start pitching a product. It's okay to ask for something relevant to forum interests and have someone publicly help you out.

Thanks for the frankness and contribution Alorael.
Thats unfortunate, although it does make me appreciate Jeff significantly more. Smh, i guess BoA it is. I'll probably start a new thread for tips as i go on the relevant subforum.  Meanwhile if anyone else can think of similar engines please say so, this doesn't have an expiration date, it's a side thing for me.

  15. I was wondering(since through various threads here everyone seems certain a new blades of[insert game] is not going to happen) if there is any kind of editors available preferably with the same graphics style as the mid-to-later spider web games, ideally free, if you know good ones that are payable, please link me privately as im not sure if it breaks the forums rules vs adverts?(does it?) idk.
I'm also not a veteran campaign maker(or anything other than mediocre), so if there is relevant information to the editors you are to recommend, please share it as well as general tips you may find useful outside what is written on prospective designers faq for BoA.

  16. Alhoon, there is a substantial difference between doing bad things and being a bad person. There are very few people that have not done bad things in their lives, and as with this occasion, society does their best to correct said bad actions or behaviour. I don't think any 4 year old child instinctively knows what is a good moral conduct according to their society. (although that in itself is another mess cause society also thought women voting was a bad thing at one point but it is irrelevant in this discussion) my point being you didn't know better, and people explained their issue with what you did. And honestly even for me i lose track of what you mean in conversations, because once i start writing i move forward, not backwards to check if someone edited.

In any case, i understand may be conflicting esp as earlier you were encouraged not to double/triple post. But the idea here is to have a clear idea of what you want to say before saying it as to avoid both massive editing and multiple posting.

And to address your right to changing your mind; you have it, but you could as well write a new post saying, "now that i think about it, i changed my mind " or similar. Editing back what you say to express a change of mind at best confuses a reader that wasn't here accompanying the discussion, at worst makes the people arguing against you look straight out silly. And since this is available for anyone to see, it's easy to understand the issue that they might have.

And i do not think anybody feels antagonised, all i see here is mild frustration and exasperation.

Moral of the story is, when someone does something wrong there are few ways to make a person see it that dont involve an accusation of wrongdoing.

EDIT: I conveniently forgot to address this, but when you *must* edit out a post in meaningful ways or want to add to it, do so by this format. It is commonly used and makes a clear distinction between what you said originally. I hope this was helpfull

If G3 was from the Shaper point of view, then it did an incredibly awful job of making the Shapers look like good guys. Meanwhile, the game you claim is from a rebel point of view actually did a far better job of humanizing the Shapers and making their cause seem sympathetic or valid. No, the truth is that G3 makes both sides look  vicious and cruel. The rebels come out slightly worse, yes, but not because the game skews to a pro-Shaper portrayal.

ok tru, but in any case i dont think the game was biased against rebels.

    I didn't...

I'm half-way through since I have put it on pause to finish my mod. I liked GF3 and I will finish it, but the Rebels, my beloved rebellion, doesn't make much of a convincing argument to join after Litalia attacked my character's school, killed the people my character has spent most of his time the past 4 years with and then tried to bully him \ tempt with power.

I am not yet in GF3 at the point where defeat seems inevitable and canisters seem so sweet that I would join; what I saw from Canisters so far is a traitor melting and a psycho-path mass murderer with glowing eyes.

I have left the game as I meet my first drakon. And I don't like drakons.

In short... the game paints the rebellion in bad light and I find my Role playing dedication (Shaper student, pro-serviles but not mass murderer that saw his whole teen-age society collapse and die) at odds with my convictions as a person and player (Shapers need to go and they need to pay for their crimes).

You see... Shapers need to pay for their crimes, but killing teenagers is wrong and so far the carrot\stick is not enough to sent me towards the Rebellion. I've been meeting a lot of pompous butthole Shapers but still not enough to join a madwoman and reptilian monsters.

Dude.. Did you seriously quit a game because your fave faction was ~Problematic TM~ in this one? The game doesnt paint the rebelion in a bad light. the game is simply from a shaper pov. same as g4 rebellion is from a rebel pov. g4 start also p much w a raid on the southforge citadel.  so its equality. in any case. finish the game, it has some necessary bits of story as well as one of the best characters in the series.
