  1. I think not too many of the false exits we find in the games were actually collapsed from above, but simply misleading tunnels that don't make it to the surface. I do recall at least one of the false exits in A1 being described as failed mining attempt to dig up and out. Avernum is likely extremely deep beneath the earth and any exits would require great upward distances. The caves west of Remote are miles long and I seem to recall they sloped upwards almost all the way north. I would strongly suspect all the exits that were used by the Dragons and GIFTs weren't usable by humans. They could very well be giant vertical shafts up, as Dragons can fly and GIFTs can walk up walls. Their mouths could be on the roof of the larger caves, miles above, totally inaccessible. My confusion over the entering and exiting of Avernum relates largely to the number of what I assume are ancient human crypts found in the series, as well as the various Liches of great age who speak the same language as us without any accents. I always assumed they weren't Vahnatai as they have their own distinctive undead, and our party specifically notes that one Vahnatai shade in A1 as being clearly alien from ourselves. Though Jeff could use a generic model for all skeletons/zombies wouldn't he at least describe them as being clearly not human undead (wouldn't Slith skeletons/zombies still have tails?) Could there have been humans living in Avernum long before the First Expedition? Possibly wiped out by the Sliths when they emerged from the lower caves? There's the Vampire near Formello, Drath, and there was clearly more undead within the Spiral Crypt than just the party of the First Expedition who met their grisly end there. Even after killing their ghosts, and purging the area they died in in A2 the undead were still strong there. I get the sense the evil there was very very old. The one in A5 is clearly a human crypt as we see the human ghosts, and is described as being incredibly old. Plus its location is in the frontier which was new to the Avernites in A5.
  2. Hmmm...I don't remember the context of that quote at all. Though trying to remember a conversation from more than half a decade ago isn't exactly easy. Who was LadyJ?
  3. I'm confused, which one was me?
  4. Quote: The encounter with Greldyan could be a foreshadowing of Avernum VI, which I think I read will be the final chapter. All against all! Caves on fire! Who will survive??? The Vahnatai will survive. They're going back to hibernation while everyone kills each other. That'd be kind of a depressing end to the series though.
  5. I have always had a pure archer in my party since Exile 1. Yeah, he's always the least usefull, but it mixes it up with a game series with as minor mechanics as this. Plus all Nephils should be archers, they just go hand in hand.
  6. I decided to complete the 4 tributes and then go back and kill them for the drops. However, after agreeing to give tribute Nashazzar seems to disapear. Does he drop anything noteworthy that is worth killing him when given the chance? Synergy List has a ? next to his name for drops. Thanks, Ed
  7. I just killed Corusca like 5 minutes ago and he didn't drop eyestalks...reloaded and killed again, still didn't.
  8. I think I'll get 1x gloves and 1x bow. My spear slith doesn't need +4 str, he's already hitting 200s in Torment at Azure's Gallery <.< Thanks for the info.
  9. Well, one of my party members is just an archer, I am looking for the bow with the highest damage output. Does the +bows from Eliavri’s Bow make it surpass Heartseeker? This is the kind of stuff that isn't obvious, and I don't wanna waste my eyestalks.
  10. I'm a big fan of archers, and I was wondering what is the highest damage bow in the game? I read in another thread that the damage formula is a bit diffrent then you'd expect and that the damage ranges aren't a very good indictator... "Just divide the maximum damage by the minimum damage to get the damage multiplier. For example, if a weapon does 10-20 damage, its multiplier is (20 / 10) = 2. Higher multiplier = better than." So does this mean Ceremonial Bow (15-45) and Farsight Longbow (10-30) are the same damage? And that Heartseeker is the best overall? Also, how does Submission and Acid arrows work for the submission bow and bow of decay? Thanks, Ed
  11. I would play Exile/Avernum if it was text based (I play a fair amount of text based games). Graphics mean nothing to a game. It's gameplay and story that I care about.
  12. I think "it was unbalanced" is never an excuse, especially on a completely new engine... Adding more options to playstyle shouldn't be scrapped for the mentality that it's 'just easier to leave out.' These were good features, so long as they are kept in line.
  13. I have some questions on the possible return of some features that were strangely lost in the transition from Exile to Avernum. Dual-weilding with the ambidextrous trait. This just seems silly not to have, so long as the two-handed weapons are kept equal or superior in strength to two one-handers. Gives more options for playstyle. Bashing weapons. I realize 'edged weapons' no longer exists either and all non-pole weapons were lumped into "Meele" but the total lack of maces and flails in Avernum confuses me. Especially with that stun mechanic in A4. Field style magic. BoA had this with wall of knives, but anti-magic field seems so essential for being able to take out enemy casters and conflag. was a great low level AOE DOT. Again, these are just more flavours to playstyle. Weapon poisons. I'm a broken record. More options! Makes a member of my party feel more like a thief besides pumping in tool skill. If not for A5, then hopefully A6. -Ed
