  1. I think I was, and if I recall correctly, I liked it even though there were a couple of things that did not change the way that you wanted them to.
  2. Slartibus, didn't you do one for Avadon 2 or am I misremembering since that was a while ago.

None of us on these forums represent Spiderweb software. With that said, Spiderweb is a two person operation and the effort of porting the game over onto an unfamiliar platform is not a priority to them (because they do not see a likely return). They briefly, as Earth Empires mentioned, used a 3rd party for making some ports of their games. I do not believe that they are doing that any more. TLDR, A port to the Switch is extremely unlikely.
  4. I have planned on doing both A:EFTP and A:RW, but real life and the death of my laptop have gotten in the way. It is possible that I might get back into A:EFTP this fall. A:RW would be a year or more after that. My concern with A:RW is that I will not be providing the maps of the cities after the disasters happen, I will only be providing the maps if you stay on schedule.
  5. It is in a room in the very bottom very right part of the map. You have to defeat an opponent and press a hidden switch with tool use nine.
  6. I always play on the normal difficulty level, because my goal is to have fun and enjoy the story.
  7. If you are going to play on torment then you really must optimize your party. The strategy central post has a lot of good advice about how to make the most powerful possible party. You also need to be prepared to attack and retreat a lot.
  8. For question 1, I think that you just need Arcane Lore level 5 to read it. For question 2, I believe that the percent bonuses are applied after all of the dice and level modifiers. Ultimately, very few weapons use that mechanic in the game.
  9. It seems to have to do with a long bow, no matter how bad being better than the best short bow. In this case, the lemonwood bow is a good short bow, but there is a distinct advantage to long bows
  10. While I am certainly biased towards the traditional RPG and the Avernum series, I do not feel that it is as hard as stilltim has laid out. Build matters in Avadon, Avernum ad Queen's Wish as well (I have not played Geneforge). It seems like a lot of the complaints in the forums over the years on Avernum's difficulty level have been by people playing on one of the two harder difficulty levels. The answer is simple, play on normal or casual. Your party does not need to be nearly as optimized on those levels and the whole point is to have fun.
  11. Without more details on what types of games you like, it is hard to make a good recommendation. I personally would suggest starting with either A:EFTP or Avadon 1. They are both modern enough to not be annoying and represent two similar, but different, approaches to RPG development with A:EFTP being substantially more open than Avadon. In either case, both of these games are closer to the traditional swords and sorcery, explore, kill things and profit, standard.
  12. Harehunter does have the Cartogarpher title. He created in several cases (A2, A4, A5, A6) and kept alive/made accessible in other cases (E1-3, A1, A3) huge amounts of map and hint data. I do not think that Harehunter is active, but he worked with Jeff on a transition plan and Jeff hosts Harehunter's maps on his ironycentral.com website with a link from his Spiderweb Software site.
  13. Slartibus, there used to be a way (may still be, I just don't know how) to see a list of users and their post counts. From what I remember there were very few people with post counts above 1,000 and most of them were no longer active. If you are going to update the regular post count titles again (something that now that I think about it is probably over due), it might be worth increasing the number of different titles in the 25 to 200 range. I don't see the Post Master General title being achieved again soon.
  14. 511. Absolutely Drab Work about a traditional mother-daughter relationship Absolutely Fabulous was a BBC focusing on a mother-daughter relationship, developed from a book "Modern Mother ad Daughter". A traditional mother-daughter relationship would certainly be drab and boring in comparison.
  15. I tried doing a guess via PM, and it came up that neither Shapley Trance nor Slartifer can receive messages. So just to get things restarted 536 Bring it Off -- Cheerleader Burlesque Bring it On was a cheerleader move and Burlesque typically involves taking it off
  16. For cave lore in A:CS, I had just one character with it and it worked fine. With that said, I was only looking for the ability to find caches.
  17. Is there anyone else besides me that is unable to get to the second page of threads anymore? It seems that since the new software update came out that the next button and the select page button have lost their functionality on my setup. I am using a 2017 iMac running Sierra (10.12.6). Thanks
  18. I wouldn't wait to close to the end to do the tower, it is useful to complete because of one of the Tomes being a spell book and then it leads to another location that you need to complete that has another (though not as useful) Level 3 spell. It would be good to have Level 3 Move Mountains and Level 3 Dispel Barrier before going to the second location, but level 2 is good enough for Elderan's tower
  19. I do not think that Senator Sanders could have won, or even been close, in 2016 or 2020. I believe that if Secretary Clinton had run a similar campaign to the one that Governor Clinton ran she would have been the second President Clinton. My summary for 2016 is Dem Nominee -- Competent, failed to learn lessons from her husband's victories (running from the center), shot herself in the foot at the end by calling half the county deplorables and then not even trying to walk it back Dem Runner up -- Guy with limited grasp on reality who would have had an embarrassing loss Rep Runner up -- Guy with limited grasp on reality who would have had a non-embarrassing loss Rep Nominee -- Incompetent guy with limited grasp on reality, but a salesman who appealed to the middle of the country My summary for 2020 is Dem Nominee -- Competent, failed to learn from 2016, barley avoided shooting himself in the foot and won the election but did not win a mandate about his policies, just everyone was so relieved that he was not the Rep Nominee Dem Runner up -- Guy with limited grasp on reality who still would have had an embarrassing loss against an opponent who was helping drive high democrat participation Rep Nominee -- Incompetent Guy with limited grasp on reality who still was the best salesmen of the lot, but he had alienated enough people that what turned out to be the decisive margin was voting against him and not for his opponent Third party candidates tend to be protest votes not serious votes since everyone who can do basic math understands that they are not going to win, but only take away from one of the other candidates. This year, both the Libertarians and the Greens dramatically underperformed 2016 as a much smaller portion of the electorate was willing to waste their vote thanks to the President. They all wanted to make sure their votes counted, especially those who were going to vote against him. Significant voting blocks (like the Unions who are traditionally pro democratic) have better health care then medicare for all. Public Option polls better with most voters then Medicare For All, and the Biden campaign spent some effort to reassure the unions that Medicare for All was not Biden's goal.
  20. Some of the cultural differences are the value that American culture has traditionally placed on economic freedom. While it is not explicitly called out the way freedom of speech, press, etc are, economic freedom (self made person, etc) is a strong cultural value. It was in fact one of the reasons why people left Europe to come to America and has continued to be important to many immigrants to the US. Economic freedom is valued by many as greater than economic security. If the Republican Party had a logical immigration policy, they would increase the quotas for immigrants coming in for economic freedom. I have know a lot of people who came (or their parents came) to this country to escape socialist paradises. Prettying the wording up by calling it democratic socialism does not give them a warm fuzzy since most of the places that they choose to leave, usually with great discomfort and sometimes with great risk, called themselves socialist democracies or socialist republics.
  21. I like to see that all nine of us who were eligible voted.
  22. It has been a long time, but I think that these quests stay open the duration of the game
  23. Just for giggles, I looked up the definition of twitch based games on Wikipedia. I realize that I only looked at one source, but I am not trying to advocate for this particular definition, only to provide a definition. "Twitch gameplay is a type of video gameplay scenario that tests a player's response time. Action games such as shooters, sports, multiplayer online battle arena, and fighting games often contain elements of twitch gameplay. For example, first-person shooters such as Counter-Strike as well as Call of Duty shooters require quick reaction times for the players to shoot enemies, and fighting games such as Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat require quick reaction times to attack or counter an opponent. Other video game genres may also involve twitch gameplay. For example, the puzzle video game Tetris gradually speeds up as the player makes progress. Twitch gameplay keeps players actively engaged with quick feedback to their actions, as opposed to turn-based gaming that involves waiting for the outcome of a chosen course of action. Twitch can be used to expand tactical options and play by testing the skill of the player in various areas (usually reflexive responses) and generally add difficulty (relating to the intensity of "twitching" required)." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Twitch_gameplay retrieved on 9/23/20.
  24. I was worried for a minute that I was going to have to learn the difference between Quarte and Sixte. It's been a while since I played A:EFTP, A:CS or A:RW, but couldn't the battle disciplines (assuming that I have the terms correctly) be seen as a step towards what you are saying in the second paragraph that I quoted? They allow a player to choose additional skills/effects beyond the standard sword attack. You can choose which ones better fit your tactical situation based on if you want more damage, knock back, area of effect, or hasting and how long of a cool down you are willing to tolerate.
  25. 1. I, in general, do not play twitch games (Skyrim being the closest to a twitch game that I play). I am at the point in lift when I no longer have the reflexes of a 20 year old, and a game in which I have to have those reflexes is not fun to me. Player skill can be expressed in different ways, such as strategy, tactics, training, equipping, etc. I completely stay away from the on-line first person shooter type games, because battling against a bunch of players whose skill with an X-Box or PS IV controller exceeds mine, despite my skill with a rifle exceeding theirs has no appeal to me. I am not saying that others could not/should not find twitch games enjoyable, I am just saying why I do not. 2. Adding realistic game mechanics can be fun, but they can also overwhelm the amount of fun in a game. In a survival game, like Minecraft, having your weapons and tools deteriorate with use is a key part of the game. If Jeff added a similar mechanic to Avernum I would not be too likely to be a fan, unless some other game mechanic that I find annoying was dropped in the process. I play games for escapism, not realism. With that said, I do think that something should be done to make the stores in Avernum more worthwhile. I never see any reason to purchase weapons or armor from a store. 3. A larger spell list with more diverse effects can add interest to game play. Using just the same half dozen spells in a game is repetitive and would lead to skilled players using different combinations for different fights or making decisions to use spells to locate traps or treasure, knowing that the spell points will not be available for the next fight.
