Finishing QW, GF3-5 and A4-6 would take up that entire 10-12 year span. I would love to see a new Nethergate, but it does not look like there is time for it

Scaled-up sliths: AI-generated sliths, based on Exile's sprites
Edgwyn replied to Ess-Eschas's topic in The Exile Trilogy
The descriptions of slith lairs definitely seem to reinforce a reptilian not mammalian cycle. An argument could be made for some fish aspects but I think that something along the lines of turtles would be closest breeding wise, definitely not any biological reason for nipples or navels. It does make sense that a AI with a lot of furry art is going to have a mammalian bias. -

I found it interesting that the Freeforms had substantially more scales/rougher skin than the non-freeforms -
I wish A4 would get the map style from A1-3, but I am just happy that A4 is going to get remade, even though we are talking 3-5 years from now

Newbie question - Do conflicting side quests affect the story?
Edgwyn replied to Ottilie's topic in Avadon Series
QW is probably closest to Avadon in style, Avernum is an older style (and I personally prefer it). The side quests in Avadon can help make you stronger which can help with the end game. -
What is not really clear from what we see is how many staff Avadon actually has. In Avadon 1, if I recall correctly, there is only enough space for half a dozen hands and three or so Hearts. The quality of the hands seems really poor (common RPG problem where the PC is the best option there is) with the brand new recruit/draftee being the only one who can do anything, which seems to be part of the problem with assigning completely wrong personalities to the missons
-
Compensation seems to be another issue. A big part of a hand's compensation package seems to be what they can extort from various people, often ones who are in great need. If the Hands were being well compensated and held accountable then bribery would be at least a lot more expensive.

Avadon has a lot of lessons in how not to run an organization. Don't forget the lack of accountability

Peter Ustinov posed as David Niven's Batman during World War 2 to make it socially acceptable for the two actors to socialize more openly then their ranks in the British Army would otherwise have allowed.

Arguably Sam is the only character that we spend much time with from the lower class. The rest of the companions are all some kind of nobility/upper class (Gimli, Legolas, Boromir, Aragon, etc). Sam's characterization is probably not all that far from the reality of the England of Tolkien's youth.

I am currently reading the Ring of Fire series. That should keep me occupied for a long time

Several people have completed various no magic play throughs. One of the great things about these games is that you have a lot of different build options that you can explore and most of them will work well enough to let you complete the game.

In addition to the shareware CDs, there was also some coverage in hard copy computer magazines that focused on the Mac market. That is another mechanism that essentially does not exist any more. Not just because hard copy magazines are going away, but also because there are so many more games on the market that covering a small indy game is unlikely.

This data is really odd. It is showing that A:CS grossed slightly more than A:EFTP despite selling half as many copies. That could be possible if A:EFTP wasn't originally on the site and A:CS caused people to buy A:EFTP at a discount, but it is still odd

Telling Time in sunless, ever-lit caverns
Edgwyn replied to smaller's topic in Avernum Trilogy (2000-2002 original versions)
Water clock is probably the easiest solution. It is possible that when the original mages created/altered the glowing fungus that they gave it a day/night cycle as well. -
I like Avernum 2 the best as well. Story wise I like 1 and 2 equally well, but 2 seems so much bigger to me even though it is only slightly bigger. It also just seems better developed, but that is probably because it was the second game developed (going back to the original version).

No Garzahd reward
Edgwyn replied to Muscleguy32's topic in Avernum Trilogy (2011-2018 Remastered Versions)
My notes are inconsistent on this. I show a quest from Micah to Destry Garzahd which results in access to the Divine Host and Arcane Blow Level 3 spell books. And elsewhere I show no reward -
The link with the image of the pillar does appear to be broken to me. However, a few items above there is the link to the map that Jerakeen made of Jhereth Deeps that has all of the blue ore locations marked which should help anyone who is having difficulty with this quest. Jerakeen has not been on here in several years so I doubt we are going to see a fix to that link.

A bit of a reflection after completing Avadon 1 and 2
Edgwyn replied to MC Tugger's topic in Avadon Series
I believe that the option of killing Redbeard in the first two games was put in by Jeff just for the sake of giving the players options. From what I remember, his death is non-canonical and so all of that pain serves no purpose. I had read enough of that here at the time that I did not kill him on my first play through and found the game much more enjoyable that way. -
Secret slith outpost
Edgwyn replied to txmimi's topic in Avernum Trilogy (2011-2018 Remastered Versions)
It is West of Formello, depending on where you are in the game you might need a boat to get to it. More specifically, it is in the Southwest portion of the square to the West of Formello. -
Ladyonthemoon, as I stated earlier in this thread, I grew up playing games well before automap. I like automap. If your opinion of my work ethic is based on my approach to playing computer games, I think that you may want to question your judgement. I play computer games for fun. I have plenty of time at work each day to do calculations, research products and techniques and do other difficult things, so I read for fun and I play computer games for fun. If you believe that the only way to play computer games is to make maps with pencil and paper and have perma-death, then that is what you must enjoy. I don't.
