Updated Real Life Meetup Chart

142 posts in this topic

I would love to meet/hang out with more people from here, but I'm kind of stuck geographically. Realistically, I think I could probably only get to see Aran or Tridash fairly easily.

Sorry I'm poor. The good news is there's about a 100% chance I'll visit in the next three years.

I'm still trying to figure out why the central meetup happened in Carlisle. There is not much of anything there and it is not near a major airport.

My recollection of it might be pretty skewed, but I think it was pretty much because I was visiting Nicothodes. Nico lived close enough to Tyran, in Carlisle, that a trip made sense - they might've even met before then, but I'm not sure. Anyway we decided to visit Tyranicus, and invited lots of people to come. Grimm made it, and I persuaded Dikiyoba to come from Oregon to see us too.

That's pretty much spot on. Nico and I had been talking for a while about meeting up sometime because we were only 2 hours' drive away from each other, so when I learned that Nikki was going to be visiting Nico, I invited them to come visit. At that point, we figured we might as well invite a bunch of other members and make it a Spiderweb party. It's hard to believe it's been 6 years since then. Here's a group photo we took with Arancaytar on Skype.

I have no idea what is going on with my right eye in that picture; it's kind of creepy.

(Also, those Eddings novels look huge, especially next to the Robert Jordan ones below. The Eddings paperbacks (aside from Belgarath/Polgara) in our school library weren't even half the size of The Eye of the World...)

I think that was probably the result of a redeye filter. Nikki's eyes look a little weird too.

It looks like he has a colored contact and maybe there's something behind it.

Lemme zoo– OH MY

Yeeeeah, I don't think that redeye filter was particularly effective.

I think there have been some new meetings in the almost exactly 1 year since the most recent version:

Fill me in, please.

I'm still thinking about using colors for geography. I'm not sure there's a good way to do it. There are a few locations that would appear widely enough to be interesting (like Pennsylvania and Colorado) but there would just be a lot of splotches of different colors, to the point that it wouldn't be possible to interpret the colors meaningfully when you look at it.

Another option would be to use color or shading to refer to time, or perhaps to quantity of meetings.

Well, Lauren and Sylae and Iffy will be moving in with me over the next few months, so that's gonna happen. No meetings yet though.

I drove from Ohio to Washington and kidnapped Bard to come live with me. The both of us met Goldengirl and Actaeon on the way back. Goldengirl is very very sweet and Actaeon has the highest charisma score of anyone I've ever met.

Yeah, self-edges are a bane of... well, something :p

I'm updating mine now. There are one or two edges not on yours and one or two minor updates that I never bothered to upload. I'm trying to decide what to do with colors, as the clumps are becoming less relevant. My best thought right now is approximate current location. What do other people think?

Oh, no, it's still based on Sylae's CSV. I'll check for the differences.

Edit: I think I've made a mistake importing that, though, because eg. Actaeon -- Rose is missing.

Edit2: No wait, that edge is also missing from the CSV, as are two of Nico's.

No missing nodes, though. Note that each edge is only listed in one direction (namely alphabetical).

Edit: Now with a neat visualization tool: https://ermarian.net/services/games/graphs/

Edit: Does the edge color represent location? Because in that case, I met Diki in California and Tyran in France, so those edges should be red and purple, not purple and green.

Yes -- will correct those line colors. Also, if anyone wants to fill in line colors for the unknown gray lines (or current locations for the gray boxes) I'll add those in too.

Re Goldengirl, there wasn't room without enlarging the dimensions of the whole chart. I may try to do some reorganizing in the future but there just isn't really a great way to deal with the quasi-septangle of the SW corner no matter what.

Well, Kelandon appears to be the king of meeting people who haven't met anyone else.

If I remember correctly, Drew met Andraste. Have fun with that line, given the way the diagram is set up now.

At the time (possibly still now?), Dareva was "South." Feo Takahari is "California." If "Wiz" is Wizcozski, she's "California" too.

And "DC Area" should probably be called "Mid-Atlantic," because I'm not in the DC area.

Slarty's definition of "DC Area" seems to include anything in a 2-hour radius of DC. I'm no closer to DC than you are.

I'm also definitely mid-Atlantic, not DC. I used to live in the DC area, but I don't really anymore. And when I met up with Slarty I was living in New England.

—Alorael, who can contribute that Dragyn Bob was also mid-Atlantic when they had their near-miss. And SMoE was too, but he hasn't been for a very long time. Neither have been Spiderwebbers for a long time, too, for whatever that's worth.
