I changed Carnelian Gloves to Burning Gloves, but the game refused to load. Is there any way around this or is it impossible to rename items? Slarty sniped the answer. If you don't know what actually happened, you could delete gf5itemschars.txt, redownload the geneforge demo and repair the files (on Steam, I think it's verify cache or something, but I'm not sure). After the repair, you can search for carnelian gloves again, but this time, replace the word itself, don't touch the spaces or the semicolons, or the end quotes. Unecessary comments: I think Jeff's games are kinda moddable, the only sad part is, you have to experiment with effect 1,2,3 etc. to see what they can do and stuff. They cycle through about 8 different colours, with each colour a different hue, and if the value is above about 50 or 60 then it goes fluorescent (like in the shaper trueweave or lodestone equipment) Actually that not an accurate description. It goes through a value (brightness) invert. (in lay terms, the dark becomes bright, and the bright becomes dark, but the hue *color* remains the same.)
