Like you I messed up the build, however unlike you I was playing without creations and I didn't manage my reputation well enough so I locked myself out of all the Shaper quests. This lead to me pulling my hair and banging my head against the wall (e.g. being forced to fight through the Barrier Zone, etc). In the end though, I did choose to destroy the Unbound.
