trying to play demo..

 

windows 7. I've tried windowed and full. same problem.

 

the initial screens are missing dialog, empty boxes, and then the game CTD after clicking the last check. any ideas?

I'm having this problem too, this exact problem. Not sure what to do from here.

to add to this. I've tried multiple resolutions. After the last check I do get a new screen with a loading progress bar that loads all the way to "preparing graphics" then after a few seconds CTD.

ok. problem caused by odd install files.

 

i had been launching the game using the shortcut automatically installed in my start menu. the shortcut is called "Avadon 2 DirectX" and points to "Avadon 2 DirectX.exe". Using this shortcut to this EXE causes the problems described above.

 

If I instead use the shortcut automatically installed on my desktop called "Avadon 2 - The Corruption" that points to "Avadon 2.exe" there is no problem.

 

It makes sense, now that I know, but not knowing that I shouldn't click on the icon that the program INSTALLED threw me off.

The DirectX version is provided as an alternative to the default OpenGL version, which is superior if supported.

and DirectX-version most likely requires DirectX 9.0c and in Vista and newer user needs to install that since those have newer dx which isn't compatibe with 9.0.

 

maybe next game DX-requirement will be 10 or higher since Microsoft ends XP-support early next year.
