Tenderfoot Thahd Bobson
I'm having a bizzare graphical issue with the Steam version of Avernum: Escape from the Pit (v1.0.1S). I've tested, and I don't have the same issue with the demo (v1.0.1), so I know what things should look like. When my Steam copy loads, I have three problems: Instead of the swirly spiral background behind the "Spiderweb Software" logo, I have a spinning Avernum: Eftp logo. Instead of showing a piece of art with three people on a ledge overlooking an underground village, I get the right half of it duplicated twice Instead of the normal background to the main menu, I have a second copy of the menu (larger and unclickable) in the upper right, and a spritemap in the upper left. (I believe it's G134.jpg) I get the same effect regardless of what resolution, graphics quality, or window mode I select. Uninstalling and reinstalling have not fixed this issue. And, as I mentioned above, both the regular and DirectX versions of the demo work fine. Any ideas? Fixes? Other things to try?
Easygoing Eyebeast keira
I'm guessing you already tried this, but run an integrity check on the game. You can do this by right-clicking it in the steam browser, hitting Properties, and the option is under the local files tab.
Tenderfoot Thahd Bobson
Yeah, that was the first thing I tried, and I just did it again for good measure. No change

Tenderfoot Thahd Bobson
And... with no change on my part it's now working. Maybe restarting Steam for the updates fixed it? Who knows. Now the characters in game are behaving oddly, blinking and/or being replaced by blocks of random animations. Clearly there's something up with my copy. But I'm just more confused than ever now. Understated Ur-Drakon Earth
system specs? tried uninstalling and then reinstalling? tried demo dl'd from official site (aka here)?
Tenderfoot Thahd Bobson
system specs?Windows 7, 64-bit. 2GB RAM. But it's in a virtual machine, so I can bump the specs somewhat. But see below. tried uninstalling and then reinstalling?Yep, no change. tried demo dl'd from official site (aka here)? Yep, and the demo plays just fine, both standard and DirectX. Which is why I'm so confused. There's a good number of games which don't run right in a virtual machine (although most run just fine), but this is the first time I've encountered one where two supposedly-identical copies of the game would behave differently. Something about the Steam version doesn't like my setup. And only the Steam version.
Hatchling Cockatrice Randomizer
Steam has been known for making changes to games it distributes. Maybe the addition of the Steam Community notice is causing the problem for you.
