Unflappable Drayk Death Knight
Im in a bit of a jam. I got to the end of scenario vodt (1st scenario) and i open a book and supposedly it is an ambush and i go up against an impossible shade opponent that summons monsters that are way way way harder than my party can manage. Is that the end? Im not sure really what to do. Ive been hacking through gremlins and the whole place seems to look very similar. Has anyone else had this problem or is there supposed to be another ending.
Hatchling Cockatrice Randomizer
You aren't at the end. This sounds like the classroom in the southwest corner of a classroom level that has been altered by gremlims. This is an extremely difficult fight so you might want to skip it and continue exploring. Some things you need to do before the end: 1) Talk to the Vahnatai. 2) Reach a control room past alien beasts. 3) Find the source of the disease and stop it. Easygoing Eyebeast Enraged Slith
Which fight is this again? The Demon?
Hatchling Cockatrice Randomizer
That's the only book ambush I can remember I don't want to remember all the times I died before killing it.
Easygoing Eyebeast Jerakeen
To be clear, Death Knight, that fight is optional and very hard at the level you're likely to be. If you can't beat it by blessing, hasting, and waiting in combat mode before reading the book, then just skip it.
Magnificent Ornk nikki.
...I'd forgotten about that fight. I should play VoDT again.
Unflappable Drayk Death Knight
Ok will do. Im still experimenting with some skills. I just got anatomy to 2 and am wondering if it will say anything like assassination does when it works. Do the other skills (lethal blow, anatomy) show up as a special damage modifier when it works. I'd like to get the numbers you get when using anatomy and the others as it would help on what i get from it.
Magnificent Ornk nikki.
If this is your first scenario with a fresh party, you're gonna want to focus on other skills before going for anatomy and lethal blow. Pump your strength/dex/endurance/weapon skills for fighters. Hardiness and defence wouldn't be a bad choice either. There's plenty of time to get the specialist skills later, don't worry. Well-Actually War Trall Niemand
Originally Posted By: Death Knight Do the other skills (lethal blow, anatomy) show up as a special damage modifier when it works. Anatomy does not, as it just modifies the damage done by a regular strike. Lethal Blow behaves like Assassination; it replaces the normal strike and so has a message of its own. I would second Nikki's advice on waiting to increase specialized skills; at low levels you need to put the skill points into basic skills first. Also, some of the secondary skills are much less useful than others. Quickstrike can be great, since it randomly gives your character extra AP, but Lethal Blow seems fairly useless to me, since it makes it easy to kill opponents of lower level only, being no help (or little help, I haven't tested this) against higher level opponents. Easygoing Eyebeast Jerakeen
Thirded. You can eventually get your characters up to level 120 if you stick with them long enough. By then you will be looking for things to do with your skill points, but in the beginning you have more urgent uses for them. Plus many scenarios offer skills for sale from trainers. You can afford to wait for Anatomy, Lethal Blow and the others.
Unflappable Drayk Death Knight
So anatomy deals more damage to humans per point?
Magnificent Ornk nikki.
... Yes, the more points you invest, the more damage you'll deal to humonoids.
Unflappable Drayk Death Knight
Oh and just to clarify things-Do ranged weapons like bows/throwing work with the assassination skill. I dont see why not as melee is almost completely favored.

Unflappable Drayk Death Knight
So if they do not, what other things are there for ranged users?
Easygoing Eyebeast Dintiradan
Sharpshooter is the only one, I think. You can find all special skills and how to get them on Kelandon's page.
Unflappable Drayk Death Knight
Ok im in a bit of a bind. It seems that im not sure what i really have with regards to what i need to solve the curse. Ive got a few questions as everything is a bit unclear. 1-The stone that they say you need is from the spiders right? Because i have a stone that i used to open the school's doors. 2-It seems that i am unsure whether i have the papers from the grumpy old man. I did his quest but the aliens talk to me like i dont have them, when i do. 3-I am totally confused as to where i should be going. The area of the school is huge and taxes numerous amounts of torches and lamps. If anyone can point me in a partial direction as to where to go to stop this. Im thinking that the waste dump is the place to go when i have all 3. I should have taken notes.
Hatchling Cockatrice Randomizer
1. There are two stones. The runed stone that you need to open the doors to get into the School of Magery. The opening stone that Chief Spider gives you the location for doing his quest. 2. The papers from the grumpy man show up in special items. You need them later. 3. After getting the opening stone you should go back and open all the green glowing gates that you couldn't do before to get some more loot. One of the places is the main library where you can turn in an undamaged text book for a certain key. Then go down to the research level and there is a door that now available. Keep going and kill some more things. The waste dump is the last place.
Unflappable Drayk Death Knight
Thanks randomizer. The only real concern i have though is whether or not i have the papers from the old man. He keeps on saying that he'll sell them to me, even though i did his quest. The waste facility is already done but i cant get past the computer controls. It says that something needs to be activated elsewhere.
Hatchling Cockatrice Randomizer
The waste facility controls don't work unless you use the auxillary controls in the control area below the School. The research level has door in the south that only open with the key from the library. Then you go through an underground outdoor type level past alien beasts to he control area that needs the opening stone to enter. You won't forget this area because there are plenty of slimes and shades down there. This scenario has lots of going back and forth to trigger the next event. Unflappable Drayk Death Knight
Alright ive been to the libraries but there is no key and no bookshelves, just forcefields. How do you open the forcefields?

Unflappable Drayk Death Knight
I have no idea what you mean. I cant use the stone as a special ability. I have no special abilities.
Magnificent Ornk Dikiyoba
The stone is an item in your inventory. You have to do the quest (it's been so long I have no idea what it is), talk to the Chief Spider, and go search for the Opening Stone after he gives you directions. Then, once it's in your inventory, you can click on the little sunburst icon to use it. Dikiyoba.
Hatchling Cockatrice Randomizer
The opening stone can be used as a potion or wand near a green gate to cause it to open. You should have gotten it by doing the Chief Spider's quest for eggs and then going back to the bug's garbage dump's northwest corner. Once you have it you need to take an undamaged text book to the Library past the green gate and there is a spot where returning it will get you a key. Well-Actually War Trall Niemand
Like many other items (potions, wands, scrolls) you can use it from your inventory by pressing the small button by its icon. Do this while standing near one or more green gates.
Unflappable Drayk Death Knight
Many thanks niemand!! It would have taken me forever without that. Sorry, i must be the worst player here
Easygoing Eyebeast Dintiradan
I didn't remember that you had to activate the opening stone either. It probably tripped me up the first time I played too; most of the time, Jeff has those things be special items that work automatically. Easygoing Eyebeast Jerakeen
I thought I remembered seeing a walkthrough for VoDT somewhere. I found this on TrueSite4Blades. It may help.
Unflappable Drayk Death Knight
Alright im losing patience again. It says in that above strategy guide to just get one of the 3 books. Every book i pull onto there, the machine destroys. What kind of book do you need, it wasnt at all specified. Edit: Just found brand new textbook. the robot is dead. Unflappable Drayk Death Knight
I know. What happens is i cant find something. When i cant find it i get frustrated. I look for the thing 5 times, it progresses. From then on, i second guess myself. And thats when i try and rush things. Like right now. Im finally at the control room and it says that i cant destroy the controls, and cant deactivate either. Im not usually used to this much thinking in many games i play. Usually i like things straightforward and hard with combat. When it comes to thinking about going here, and backtracking here, it makes me lose my mind. The only reason i want to beat this scenario is because it has become almost a necessity to not give up. Not because i want to get farther. I messed up my rogue character and he needs to get deleted. The only thing i hope is that the other downloadable scenarios are not all like this. Something simple is all i ask
Easygoing Eyebeast Jerakeen
Which room are you in. Describe it, please, and if possible quote directly from the dialog that you're getting when you try to operate the controls. And no, most scenarios are much more straightforward than VoDT. Unflappable Drayk Death Knight
I just finally finished the scenario. Im hoping to try a different party this time with a better starter scenario. Would anyone recommend a good beginner scenario thats mostly combat oriented? Im glad that i can at least choose this time. Anything that is far away from vodt.
Easygoing Eyebeast Enraged Slith
Just off the top of my head: Adrift, Siege of Copperpeak, A Perfect Forest, Witch Hunt, Rats Aplenty. The first three are pretty difficult, though.
Magnificent Ornk nikki.
RoR, too. And that has specialist skills to buy, something you seem to like.
Easygoing Eyebeast Dantius
Tales (of? from?) the Tabard Inn is good, too. You don't actually level up from playing it, but you get some very useful items that can really help you out a lower levels- the Grim Mask in particular.
Easygoing Eyebeast Jerakeen
Don't do A Perfect Forest. It's a good scenario, but the puzzle at the end will, I predict, drive you nuts.
