Fledgling Fyora nebson
Many years ago I became a fan of the Exile series. Recently out of the blue I decided to Google Spiderweb software and see what was new. I was delighted to see that Exile had been upgraded and was now the better than ever Avernum. Unfortunately I am having a little trouble with the gameplay. Everything moves way too fast! Even if I go to the preferences and set the speed to "quite slow", my cursed foes move about in a maddening flurry that I can't begin to keep track of. In addition, whenever I try to move my party around with the mouse, each click causes my party to move 2 or 3 steps. I've tried a couple "slow down" programs with no luck. I am running Windows 7 on a Toshiba Satellite laptop. It has a 1.86 GHz single core Intel processor and 2GB ram. Please advise, I am eager to relive my adolescence. Thanks! Understated Ur-Drakon Tyranicus
In Avernum 1, a left-click will move you forward 2 steps, a right click will move you forward 1.
Understated Ur-Drakon Earth
or just use keyboard arrows. as for fast enemies no much help for that.

For the fast enemies, you can usually outrun most of them by running away if you're not in combat mode.
Well-Actually War Trall Micawber
OP is right though: when compared to Exile, Avernum positively whizzes along and you miss all the action. One suggestion is to try running in a virtual machine with the amount of processor available throttled... Also, run iTunes in the background to hog some more system resources. Understated Ur-Drakon Earth
or do virus-scan and put Avernum on lowest priority.
Easygoing Eyebeast keira
Or for something practical, run BOINC while you play. If that's not an option, you said you were using Win7...maybe running it in the XP mode emulate-a-tron will slow it down some?
