Is there any way to get the party to fly or to fake the status while they are indoors?

I don't think there's any way you can do this without some terrain manipulation.

You can assign the status, it does not actually do anything, apart from displaying the status icon. But you can assign the status for the purpose of a town script. Simply have some item call a scenario state that reads:

set_party_status(25,##,1);

Where ## is the number of rounds you want the flight to last.
