  2. If it's 2013, I would guess it's from the old CBoE installer linked at the top of the forum header. That being said, if you really want to run the original, the download link is located here: http://www.spiderwebsoftware.com/blades/winBOE.html good luck

  4. Well, since April I've watched a few new TV things: Baccano! - A weird little anime mini-series with an interesting concept. If you're into interesting concepts, check it out. Ticks off my 1920s nostalgia fetish as well as my train fetish. The big downside, I must say, is too much obligatory violence. Band of Brothers - I watched this a long time ago when I was a kid and recently gave it a rewatch. If, somehow, you have a WW2 fetish and haven't seen this, go watch it. Fargo - By the same people who made the movie, and just as great, if not better. The Man in the High Castle - Actually what prompted this post. Amazon's attempt at turning a book into a movie. Pedantic book nerds seem to complain, but having not read the book, I must say I really like what they've done with it. I doubt I'll ever watch another TV show or movie where (season finale spoiler) [inspoil]Rudolph's about to off Hitler and NO DONT DO IT PUT THE GUN DOWN DONT KILL HITLER[/inspoil]. If you have a Nazi/Imperial Japan fetish, this should do the trick for you, and if you have a retrofuturistic 1960s fetish, you'll be set for days. Rick and Morty - Basically if Archer and Back to the Future had a cartoon baby. It's full of "stupid" humor that actually manages to be funny. After I started watching I said "wtf is this, this is dumb" and then binged the entire series. Even the Interdimensional TV episodes (aka "we ran out of budget so just made an episode that's a montage of stuff we wrote down while stoned" episodes) are pretty good. It sorta reminds me of Arrested Development, where you'd have to rewatch it ten times to catch everything. I've also been staying up with my existing shows: MLP:FiM - Holy crap on a cracker, this was a good season. Animation is even better, the acid trip that was episode 100, and that epic finale ([inspoil]although the ending felt kinda gimmickey tbh[/inspoil]). Doctor Who - aaaaaa <3 Capaldi. I love what they've done with the new Doctor, I love the electric guitar, I love the sonic shades, I love the sarcastic assmuffin, this is great. I'm even willing to overlook the Moffatisms. Hannibal - Honestly, I haven't been able to force myself to carry on with it. Season 3 starting out being duuuumb, and I gave up halfway through e03. If I wanted to hear uneducated crap about morality and philosophy and all this other stuff I'd read one of those SW threads. Orange is the New Black - Slightly less gratuitous netflix sex, so that's nice. If I wanted to watch a porn I have better options. Overall a solid season, looking forward to s04. And when the hell is Sherlock coming back

and why the hell is team fortress 2 15.7 GiB??? Are you kidding me? No amount of hats can justify that amount of disk usage! Portal 2 is almost 12 GiB! What is this??? And not to jump on Valve in particular. ARK has __27__ GiB of disk usage. I would love to hear a justification for that. Fallout 4 is massive as well, but at least they have graphics to justify it. but sylae, you pedantic ass, those are all first-person shooters which tend to have high graphical demands. XCOM, a Jeff game with slightly better graphics, uses 18.5 GiB. Dota 2, which is Warcraft III with a facelift, uses 16 GiB. This is just what's on my hard disk right now, I'm not exactly a gamer either. Someone with ***Many Games*** probably has to use a spare hard disk just because people can't be bothered to optimize anything! And it's not just "AAA" games either, I see several "indie"/hipster/whatever games that are MASSIVE as well.

On a serious note, really, developers have gotten away with a lot of wasteful allocation of ram, mostly because we have so much of the damn stuff, it's no big deal. It's an even worse case for disk usage. Nowadays a movie might take up 5-10 GiB, which is no biggie, but that means we look the other way at some ridiculous data waste. If I paste the string "640K ought to be enough for anybody." into MS word and save it as a word document, the resulting file is 11,302 bytes. For a string that is only 36 chars in length! You could fit 312 more "640K ought to be enough for anybody." into that file, and still have a few bytes to spare! it's wasteful as hell. But sylae, you say, surely advances in lossless file compression we've had since the 90s could make that file much smaller? .docx files are glorified zip archives containing XML. It's already been compressed. The actual data stored is even more than 11,302 bytes. One file, styles.xml, is 28 KiB uncompressed! For the default styles that MS word uses, that I didn't touch, that I didn't even use (except for the default Calibri whatever pt). Data that should not be shipped because it's the default, already stored somewhere with the program. But sylae, you say, you're being a pedantic ass. Who cares about a couple kibibytes when disk storage is so cheap and widely available? That bloated Word document isn't going to push me over the edge. Google drive has 240 million active users, according to some article. Given that they throw storage at you like it's free candy (albeit just so they can crawl your files and sell your habits to advertisers) We can assume a lot of those users have buttloads of documents uploaded to "the cloud", whatever that is. We can't know the exact figures without better numbers, but I'd bet google is dumping millions of dollars into disk space for MS Office to waste. Byt sylae, you say, you're still being a pedantic ass. I'm 16 and don't use MS Word except for school stuff. Most of my time is spent gaming, so how much space MS Word uses doesn't really matter for me. Does Crusader Kings II really need 100 MiB save files? No, no it doesn't. The best game in the world, Rocket League, saves replays by essentially copy-pasting the network stream into a file. Is there a better, more efficient way to do that? Yes, yes there is (although a 5 minute match still only adds up to ~182 KiB using this method, which isn't too bad (~621 b/s if my math is right)). There was a great article someone linked, I dunno if it was here or somewhere else, about ~~~back in the day~~~ sending an image to a monitor using the very limited technology of the time. It had a lot of stupid programming tricks that you don't really see today (probably because they were a huge pain). It'd be interesting to see examples of that happening today, but I think programmers have gotten a lot lazier (I know I have, my code is variable spam everywhere).

Ah, the 80s. A simpler time for a more innocent world.
  8. This is an interesting question, one which I'd never really thought much on. I'd have to say, I don't really savor the idea of "death by inaction", dying in your sleep, or in a hospital somewhere of some disease or condition. Suicide is kinda lame too, I mean if it works for you go for it but it's not my cup of tea. When I die, I damn well better be doing something. One's last moments of life are their farewell tour to existence, might as well make it a good show. When I die, I don't particularly care how, but I'd like people look back and say "Well, she went out with her boots on."

    Giving Thanks

As silly as it sounds, SW. Shortly after I became part of the community here, tumultuous things started happening in my life. I dunno who/what I'd be if it wasn't for this community. Being able to get out of the echo chamber I'd grown up in really brought much-needed perspective as to who I was. So yeah, y'all aren't too bad.

    Forum Themes

All the themes in the list are "vanilla" IPB themes, except for Spiderlicious (which is loosely based on the old theme we had when the forum was on UBB), and besttheme, which was an april fool's variant of Spiderlicious. Regarding new themes, We can't guarantee it'll happen but we're always open to suggestions.

You must cease and desist all infringing uses of my client's name or you shall face litigation under AMERICAN LAW. Regards, Sylae, Sylae, and Sylae, Attourneys at Law.
  12. http://whenisgood.net/iForgotMaroonedIsStillGoingOnButLetsDoSession3 calendar edit: it seems no times match up, we'll try again soon.
  13. the broth was $0.79 each at King Soopers (which is Yet Another Name for Kroger), and the beans were $0.69 (i'm sure you could save more by buying dried beans or something, but who has time for that?). The two chicken bits were $2.29. That brought me to $5.94. Rolls and cheese aside (which are, of course, optional to go with the meal), everything else is spices which I imagine you should already have laying around. I didn't factor the cost of those into it, but I would assume it's negligible.
  14. White Chicken Chili Great as a cold evening dinner, this tasty and filling vegetarian dish serves 3 hungry people (plus leftovers!) for $6. Ingredients: 2 chicken breasts 2 cans chicken broth 3 cans great northern beans Minced garlic Crushed red pepper Salt and pepper (optional) rolls (i prefer bolillo rolls) (optional) cheese (i prefer colby jack) [spoileralt=How Does]First, throw the beans and broth into an crock pot. set crock pot to high. Add this much salt, pepper, and crushed red pepper to the crock pot (adjust to taste): (pepperoni for scale) Add this much minced garlic to the crock pot. I also like to add a bit of the garlic juice that's in the jar, but if you are un vampir then i wouldn't recommend it. (pepperoni for scale) Get your chicken breasts and wash them to remove the cooties. Toss a pan on the stove and lube it up with a touch of oil. Once it's hottish toss the chicken on. I like to add a bit of salt and pepper to the chicken as well: Cook the chicken. Remember, if it's pink, it has cooties!: (salmonella for scale) Use a couple forks (or your teeth or whatever, i don't judge) to pull the chicken apart. you can also just cut it into bits, but that's lame. Toss the chicken bits in the crock pot, stir it all up, and go to work or whatever you lot do. come back in many hours and it'll be lovely. Throw some in a bowl, add some cheese on top, and eat with a roll. [/spoileralt]
  15. Kind of update: Job is lovely, but it seems right now heads are up asses as far as scheduling goes (as in, i've had surprise work shifts twice in the last week). I dunno if people are okay with less than a week's notice for sessions (and even then...), but until things settle down it might be the only option. Thoughts?
  16. if anyone wants to order me pizza as a prank i'm all for that. dunno who thought "wow, i'm going to pay for someone else's dinner!" was a horrible thing to do.
  17. Things are getting slightly tumultuous IRL for me the next couple weeks or so, I don't really want to do a commitment on a time until then. Sorry! I'll post a new when as soon as I know what will be feasible.
  18. I recently rewatched Fargo (the film), which is just as lovely as I remember, and added on a binge-watching of the TV series. Highly recommended for anyone who liked the movie; it's set in the same fictional universe and the Coen brothers do a great job of a crime drama that doesn't revolve around CSI-style "Enhance! Enhance!" pseudoscience. Really looking forward to s02. Before that I binged on the recent Orange is the New Black season, which is certainly better (and has less gratuitous lesbian sex scenes! yay!). Also watched Akira, which Nalyd summed up nicely. Speaking of Nalyd, a few weeks ago he suggested Nightcrawler which is a lovely film about what happens when you give a psychopathic autist a camera (at first I thought the guy was just a horrible actor, but then I realized that he was just playing the character spot-on). More recently, I've been rewatching From the Earth to the Moon, which is lovely. I'll probably tack on a rewatch of The Wind Rises.
  19. Session's over! 2 XP for everyone! Calendar for session 3
  20. Let's just keep on as scheduled, I'd rather not reschedule again if its avoidable. Oh and ... 22? Hour warning!
  21. Yeah, sorry. I forgot to do a thing. 16.5 hour notice!
  22. Tentatively looking at Jul 22 for the next session
  23. The GPL (as well as the CPL the original code is dual-licensed under) definitely allows commercial resale (including for-profit) of derivative works, so long as a way to download the source (in this case, probably the images) is provided. This could be as simple as a...link to the forums to download BoE. As Slarty said, the only hurdle here is the "Blades of Exile" branding. I would argue that Jeff has abandoned the trademark as it is no longer for sale and the product has been thrown to the open-source wolves. As others have said, even if legally you seem to be in the clear, asking for Jeff's blessing here might be wise.
  24. This thread reminds me that I need to get around to finishing my horrible cooking show idea
