  1. If I registered a previous edition of the game will I have to pay for it again to get the intel version or will it just work like reregistering when I switch computers?... or am I missing something altogether here?
  2. I am on a mac and I think I've just figured out what was causing my problems. I never bothered correcting the file permissions for the preference files. Geneforge 1 won't even launch if the preference file doesn't have permission for the user you are logged into. When I changed the permission to show the file being owned by the correct user then it worked just fine. That still leaves it to be seen if there are any spontaneous reversals as before, but I got it at least for now which is more than I can say for before.
  3. I have a little bit of trouble with being distracted by my games and so I like keeping all of them inside a folder that I set to be owned by a different user on the computer so I have to log out and back in again to play a game. Unfortunately I can't seem to find a good way to keep my Spiderweb games registered across all the different user names. They all end up being initially installed on the admin account I use for day to day work and therefore registered on that one. But if I try to play a game under the game user, it often shows unregistered or may spontaneously become so. This seems to happen to both Avernum and Geneforge games and on both ones installed from CD preregistered and on ones I downloaded the install for. I've tried getting around this by copying the preference file for each game on the user its registered under to the corresponding place in the other users. However this seems to spontaneously reverse itself and sometimes I've even managed to corrupt my installation and or game save files. Is there a reliable way to make the game registered across all users on a single computer?
  4. I've noticed AV1 in AV2 there are wondering cows outside that if you bump into you get a message that you try to round them up but the cows are just too agile to catch. I leveled up my cave lore fairly high but nothing different ever happens. Are these here just as a teaser?
  5. I try to make them almost pure priest and mage to start with. I'll definitely make sure both can do all the low level stuff the other can, such as healing and slow or speed. When the magic characters are up to level 18 in their specialties I have them learn the entire other one. Its incredibly useful to be able to cast two arcane shields in one round or two divine warrior. By about the time the mage and priest are at 18 in their specialty I stop developing the melee fighters as much as meelee and have them learn most all of the priest spells since those can still be cast through armor. That way if I need to I can enter a fight with 4 high level attack spells such as divine fire which in many cases is enough to finish an entire battle. There are so many spells to cast to prepare a battle or to just clear a room quickly its nice having just about everybody in on the action. Fairly early on everybody should be strong enough to cast repel spirit...
  6. I was always curious about greenfang there, before she actually disappears and after completing the Shalia quest by getting her to the Shapers Greenfang kept triggering a script about being anxious or something when I passed the docks area. Was I missing some special encounter, like say go to a certain place and you find a dead Shalia with a note left by the shapers saying rebels beware or something? Never found out
  7. More interesting link would seem to be in Nethergate Resurrection the Areana were supposedly shaped or magically bred to be a watchdog of sorts and escaped the lab. Can't remember the exact text of it, was written on the webs right next to the Wild Hunt spell or something. But, on the other hand I don't think there are any spiders in Geneforge are there? It was a weird world crossover for him to put in. I mean nobody is noticeably doing magic breeding in Nethergate, but we have an entire race of magically bred spiders.
  8. Maybe your only allowed to purchase by CD at this point or I'm missing something. When I click the link for get the demo off the announcement page all I get is the old screen that says mac is coming Winter of 07. Did I miss something?
  9. For the gryphon I was in the secret passage in the far upper part of the map, middle to the left. There was a stone in the way of walking forwards and none of my mages found alternate routes using the spell for showing the area around me on the map. There was a gryphon right behind the stone, that might be the guardian gryphon you were talking about, I don't think I tried talking to it. I have been to the vale of sould but I didn't actually try purchasing a soul from him, just smashed through the level and told him to be a good boy from now on, got the nether gate spell. Did I need to purchase a soul?
  10. I haven't been able to get the Gryphon feather. The two strategy guides I've looked at suggests that perhaps I forgot to help the injured bird or that my dexterity isn't high enough. Which one is it? I'm kind of confused cause I thought I helped the bird, but I found it practically towards the beginning of the game. Is there a time limit on having the griphons like me for helping their young? Also, along the right hand edge of the world map there's a place where there's a ledge that my character can't crawl up and wishes he had a flying companion to look at. Is that just a teaser or am I supposed to be able to get up there? Also, just about finished the celt side of the game and I've noticed I haven't been able to level up my druid characters high enough up to cast all the spells that I've learned. I did make a few mistakes (what was I thinking playing with berserker or armour use on a spell caster?) but I've practically cleared the whole game and don't have any more useful ways to level up unless I want to slaughter peaceful goblin towns etc. Have I just missed a lot of special areas or did I budget skill points wrong?
  11. One thing I'd really like to see changed is when various random events happen that change your stats to have more of them actually labeled in the text display. I mean I have nothing against being told that I feel more energetic than before or that some of that energy rush seems to have stuck with me, but often times I have no idea what just happened to me and I don't know my own stats well enough to just pull up the page and say "oh wow, my intelligence points just went up one." This is especially annoying if I'm trying to compare two different awards, such as do I give the magic stones to Rose Lady to Sameal? If anything other than getting 200 skill points happened I have no idea.
  12. If I remember correctly its more like a wall not being there that was there before, memory is putting it as somewhere upwards and to the right of the chief's audience room. The key is on one of the dead bodies they keep around as storage for honored guests to loot.
  13. I think that in reward for going to the effort to find the Ornk canister you should get to use it as a pack animal. Just to keep that from making anything too much like a free give away it should be a pack animal with an extreme lack of any sense of self preservation. So you can get to use it to carry stuff instead of just taking an action point hit for having a heavy backpack...but you can't keep anything too valuable on them because they'll likely get themselves killed the first time something stronger than themselves comes around and drop all your goodies on the ground. I could be a great way to help prevent the boredom of scouring and rescouring an area because you can't pick it all up to sell it in one trip. Just make a suicidal pack animal after clearing the zone and way fewer trips. It seems like the most logical thing to do with the traditional Ornk canisters. I'm not exactly sure how to integrate that with the entire "give 2 of intelligence and get to control it in battle" perhaps there's a joke each time to try to give them intelligence about cow's being soo stupid that granting them intellectual enlightenment threatens to drain all your essence in the attempt.
  14. those catagories made sense, when you look at it later in the character info screens where you do things like equip weapons and things like that. If you wanted to understand how much effect a weapon was having on a skill you had to equip the weapon and then switch over to a stat screen that had the tech readout I was talking about. The basic leveling was ok, but trying to make any sense of it later in the context of how powerful your weapons and armor were and things like that just got irritating.
  15. I meant honest to goodness Final Fantasy 1, that ancient NES game that compared to the later showing almost doesn't have a plot line... but was cool because it was pushing the very limit of what an NES game could possibly be in terms of sophistication... Its stat system is just plain old too confusing to tell you much of anything interesting except in most basic catagories and since you didn't get to choose where anything was focused it seemed bordering on pointless to go into so much detail. You are right when you leveled up their were only a few catagories, but when you went to look at any of them later on the info screen if I remember correctly there were 20 some individual skill stats listed in percentages or something weird like that. Looked more like a technical readout that the programers forgot to summarize or better yet hide.
