  1. Tom's Hardware frequently rates the best CPU for different amounts of money. They do the benchmark testing so you don't have to. The latest one was done in September and you can find it at http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-performance-radeon-geforce,3018.html.
  2. That's interesting Dantius, but it doesn't explain why the G2 PC was in Drypeak after the events of G2 took place or how they managed to use a geneforge. The G5 PC clearly has memories of using a geneforge before and there were none in G2.
  3. You're right, in the Geneforge documentation it says "Intro Music - Bjorn Lynne" although it doesn't give the name of the song.
  4. Can anybody confirm? I did all of Melanchion's quests and all of Gladewell's quests and the ending, if I recall correctly, was that King Starrus was unable to stand up to Melanchion and the people were unhappy. That's when Gladwell returned with a lot of power (gotten from Erika Redmark's tower although that isn't mentioned) and takes over as leader of Avernum. As a result both Melanchion and Avernum were equals in power and influence.
  5. I still don't understand why people don't like G3. It was always my favorite because you had to choose your allegiance, the characters were interesting, and the quests were fun. Granted the island system was annoying but aside from that I didn't have any major complaints. Am I missing something that I should hate?
  6. The grey scarab in the scarabs area may mean that he only has 1 out of 4 unlocked or accessible. Maybe the character can unlock the other scarab slots by doing quests or gaining additional levels.
  7. It's possible that the main character was chosen for some special reason other than just being a fresh set of eyes. For example, he could be a recent graduate of Avadon Warrior school and because of his performance there the king thought he is someone with unique talents. Or maybe the main character is connected to the ruling party or power through birth but isn't a part of it himself. He's familiar enough to people so he can get access that a commoner wouldn't but not so close that he's tainted by it. Or maybe the main character was born in one of the Pact lands but spent many years in the Farlands so he has experience the king can't get anywhere else. I have trust that the reason for the main character being chosen will be something other than "Hey, you there, come work for me." At the moment it does sound a bit plain but maybe it's just because we don't know everything yet.
  8. The mirror is used for a quest at Melanchion's Lair at the very end of the game. It's optional but the spellbook you get is nice. Congrats on your loot.
  9. Why not put all of the possible endings?
  10. I'm somewhat surprised Mr. Vogel hasn't made Geneforge and Avernum shirts and mugs already. Please let us all know what his answer is when you ask him.
  11. It might not be practically possible but I can see how an MMO during the rebellion in Geneforge could be a lot of fun. Lots of interesting characters, varied classes, many areas to explore, crafting, and more. Avernum could be a lot of fun as well for the same sort of reasons.
  12. Thanks again. I did a search on these boards for icy end but got no results so I didn't see your previous question Tarson. P.S. If this happens to you there's no town to automatically recharge BUT you can go to the enchanted anvil area and there are recharging pools there. That's the easiest way to get back your essence if you're still exploring the Isle of Spears and Icy End is hostile to you.
  13. Oh! I remember that now. Sadly, I don't usually keep saves when playing Geneforge although I should change that habit. Will my standing with the Rebels decrease much if I kill everyone in Icy End to get to the cannisters? Thank you very much for answering my question.
  14. I've done some searching for this question but haven't found any mention of it. So I'm wandering around the Isle of Spears and returned to Icy End to say that I've destroyed the Shaper Cache when the Drayk guards attacked me. I must have done something wrong but all of my answers were pro-rebel. Could someone give me a hint as to what I did wrong and perhaps an idea of how to get back on their good side? I have done a lot of killing on the island so I probably killed someone I shouldn't have. Oops!
  15. Thanks for all of your great help as the solution was that I already did have the pelts without realizing it. I don't know where I got them. That was the first time I went through that portal and if they are only found in one of those boxes then how else could I have gotten the pelts? Perhaps I made it up there somehow but I honestly can't recall. Thanks again!
