  1. I'd really like to be able to move in combat using the keyboard.
  2. I found the codex entry for Lynaeus to be full of foreshadow or full of blatant lies. Interesting... Vrgul, the blacksmith philosopher is my favorite character that I have encountered so far. His head be big full of brain. Smarters than most manies humans. I want him and his sixteen kids in my party.
  3. I am not sure if there is a designated place to report bugs or game errors? Here seemed to be the best place to do so.... My female tinkermage dies like a man. When killed her death scream seems to be the standard male death sound, not the female one.
  4. For me the problem with music in games is despite how good it may be there is not enough of it and you end up hearing the same tune every 20 minuets. The repetition gets even more pronounced if there is a combat track. I think I would rather have more ambient sounds that contribute to the atmosphere. Avadon 2 seems to have a slight bit more than previous one. On the idea of a fan soundtrack: You might want to consider making a public Pandora station. I got a Gregorian chant channel I use when I go dungeon crawling, makes things seem more epic.
  5. Solved. I got my refund without any problem. Re-purchased it on Steam. I'm very thankful to Spiderweb for accommodating my mistake.
  6. Is the Blademaster skill Challenge worth taking? I seem to remember reading that it didn't work like it should in either the first Avadon or A:EftP.
  7. The best part of this game is that on day one you know 90% of the grand plot. I have not encountered another RPG (video or table top) that has done this. It feels like such a relief to know what your ultimate goal is without having to fight through a perpetual wall of secrets. Other games seem to place so much emphasis on a big end reveal that is supposed to blow your mind, but ultimately leaves you clueless as to what is going on for a majority of the game. You generally don't know what the end goal is until you are standing right in front of it. Its like 'Hey Mr. Elder Wizard if you suspected that your colleague was trying to find a book of the dead so he could raise an undead army to take over the world, why didn't you tell anybody about it? 'Cause now there is an evil wizard running around with an undead army trying to take over the world...' Having my perspective shaken up by Avernum caused me to make a choice in a table top RPG. Its some bad Pathfinder module run by a friend. We get to about level 15, some old wizard shows up outta the blue, tells us some grand story that has nothing do to with anything we have done so far, says it is our parties responsibility to save the world. The group shares a few laughs about the poor writing then accepts the old wizard's quest. Then I throw the GM for a loop. I insist that the party arrest and punish the wizard for his negligence in failing to report a potential world ending disaster. But of course he teleports away because he has more secrets to reveal when we level up....... Secrets are now my favored enemy, it used to be doors but not anymore, oh how I loathe me some secrets. You did something dumb, you got thrown into the pit of the earth. Find a way out and/or punish those responsible. Simple yet beautiful. The next table top RPG I run will be heavily influenced by the storytelling methods used in Avernum: Escape from the Pit. Thanks Spiderweb!
  8. I normally don't care much for skulls in art, but the death screen looks wicked slick.
  9. Yeah, thanks. Its just not a great feeling when you need to be a cheap bastard and ask a good guy to return your money. I'm in this kind of trivial moral dilema. I want to support Jeff. My job keeps cutting my hours. $20 is a fair price. $8 seems like a steal for more than 40 hours of fun. $12 can send my nephew to see Ender's Game. Sorry Jeff, I think I will have to be a cheap bastard.
  10. I am not accussing Spiderweb of being malicious. Absolutely not. If I did not respect an independant developer working hard to put his kids through school I would not have bothered with this thread and instead went straight to the refund request. I recognize that my gripe is self induced because I wanted to get my hands on this game ASAP. When I ordered it it was not yet available on Steam or GoG, so no prices to compare to. I just assumed that the price would be the same regardless of the outlet. Three different prices from three different outlets on the first day of release is weird. But seriously, I thought cutting out the middle man and going direct to the source would be cheaper, not 2.5 times more expensive. I don't find that idea to be crazy or illogical. That is why I feel a bit uncomfortable with my purchase. A bit off topic: If Spiderweb wants to get more out of their hardcore fans with extra cash then maybe they should add a donate button instead of overcharging for games on their site. When I did search for Avadon on steam I did see that the original was $10 as oppossed to the $20 here. In all honesty I thought the price difference was because Spiderweb was slacking on their site maintnence as I was unaware of it being a half donation method.
  11. I used to have a negative opinion on hollow romances in RPGs. Then I made the mistake of playing The Witcher. In that game you actually collect cards for each woman you take to the bone zone. Since that horrible experience my tolerance for sappy dialogue has dropped signifigantly, as long as it doesn't get anywhere near The Witcher I'm good.
  12. Yeah. Viewing it as a propaganda poster makes a lot more sense.
  13. The graphics seem more crisp, clear, and less repetative. Animations for spells and abilities is deffinently a step up. Tinkermage is fun, though I'm worried about how effective turrets will be in boss fights on torment. I'm not sure if one can move with the keyboard anymore? I used that quite a bit in previous games. 'G' key still does not close the screen it opens... Trival but very annoying. I am hugely dissipointed that the female mage is blond because I am weird like that. I like the art in the intro. Well done. Except for the main pic, the one with woman and baby next to the warrior. What are you doing there girl? Don't charge into combat with a baby...unless she is planning on wielding it... New weapon type maybe?
  14. I did do some minor research. I bought the game at 3am central time, I searched Steam, it wasn't there, nor did Google come up with anything other than Spiderweb as a place to buy. Yeah, I know it is my own fault for not waiting till morning to purchase this game but still, I should not have to seach for something like 'Does Spiderweb charge 2.5 times the price of other outlets?' However, I spent $20 because I know I will get more than $20 enjoyment out of the game. I don't know yet if I will ask for a refund. It's not like I bought something that doesn't work. I just feel a bit taken advantage of. Argg. Grumble. Rabble. Fnord.
  15. I am a big fan of Spiderweb games, more than willing to drop $20 on Avadon 2 as soon as it was available. I did so last night. Now this morning I see a Steam advertisment for Avadon 2 for $8, then I look closer and GoG is selling it for $7.50. Man, a couple of dollars is one thing, but more than double the price.....WTF! So my enthusiasim, excitement, and impatientence to play this game costed me $12 extra? Not cool man! (and yes, I am poor enough that $12 makes a difference)
